Steven's Grand-dad is a loud, sermonizing preacher, and I had a lot of fun designing him. <3
Erik is from Minnesota, so I've been watching YouTube videos of Minnesota accents so I could get familiar with the speech patterns. They were all super cute, so I had to draw Erik doing a bunch of the "Minnesota-isms" (if this was a cartoon, his accent would be stupidly strong)

More drawings of the little vanilla bean that Steven becomes friends with. Erik Fugelsang is super innocent, the kind of person who considers it "being a badass" when he drops his gum wrapper on the ground instead of in the trash can (and then running back and picking it up two minutes later because he felt bad). He's also one of those kids who's pretty much invisible. He keeps getting sat on because people didn't see him in that chair, or getting locked in the band hall because no one noticed he was still in there.
