The Movie Jumper was not a 'flop' as some say but much of it was ruined for fans.
I think fans and those who followed the details of production for the movie Jumper would disagree with some of the reasons for Jumper's lack of success in the August 2 article from Looper. The reason is pretty basic.
As a fan of Steven Gould's books and of Hayden, it's 'The Powers That Be' who ruined Jumper. By ruining the source material, it watered down the main character and thus became a let down for the already established cult fan base and "pre-established audience." If not for that, I think there would have been a 3 movie franchise.
Jumper was let down by a too ambitious screen adaptation adding additional characters and story arcs. Sometimes less really is more. Whatever critics think about the Twilight series of movies, it proved that you don't have to stray far from the source material to create a successful movie franchise that already has an audience.
But we still love Jumper. ❤️ I went to see it 6 times. 👏 I watched with the novel’s story and book characters in mind. It gave us some great moments with David and Millie and the beginning scene and ending scene for Jumper are among my favorite movie scenes of all time.
