After a total of 15 days in the field in July, I went back to my apartment in Antigonish and took a little stroll through my Alma Mater (ironically the place that killed my love for reading for about five years) to see all of the new infrastructure going up. The campus is still as beautiful as ever and I thought it would make a nice backdrop for this months haul. July’s reading included the first (chronologically speaking) book on the adventures of British Napoleonic era soldier Richard Sharpe, Simon Sinek’s book on leadership and the importance of putting your subordinates well-being first, a compilation of the great Rick Mercer’s finest rants, the hilarious autobiography of another Newfoundland funny man Mark Critch, and finally a psychological analysis of classical nature masculine archetypes. Looking forward to getting more reading done before heading to Ottawa for the CAF Small Arms Concentration! #bookstagram #julyreads #Antigonish #stfxuniversity #stfx #NovaScotia #sharpestiger #richardsharpe #bernardcornwell #leaderseatlast #simonsinek #rickmercer #FinalReport #sonofacritch #markcritch #kingwarriormagicianlover #robertmoore #douglasgillette (at Antigonish, Nova Scotia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0o40HRpP6y/?igshid=1cmvgswvppal6

White people culture = sex culture
I came from a really multicultural city, and went to a school where most of my peers were offspring of immigrants. Parties were completely different, less about sex and hooking up and more about having fun. Coming here i feel like its just ‘lets get drunk and try to impress the opposite sex’ which i find so weird. I get its human nature, but isnt it human nature to want to just be accepted and have fun without being concerned about getting laid? The school basically enforces this too, with organized ‘speed dating’ between the residences, wtf is that about lol? Theres also so much sexual assault. I was at a res party once and a guy literally grabbed my ass and wouldn't leave me alone. I mean i get that ur drunk, but like guys at home (who werent white) would at least ASK permission. I feel like its more about privilege rather than race, I understand that, but here there literally is no existence of anybody not white other than the coady institute group of 30 year olds from Africa (whom are very nice, friendly, and are fun to talk to when im in the coady library). With this overwhelming amount of privilege comes total idiots, like these stupid people are smashing bottles against walls and leaving messes for the janitors to clean up. Who raised you?? Honestly??? Not to mention these same idiots who are assholes in class, making it obvious they aren't paying attention if they decide to even show up at all. I know a girl whose parents did her application, made her schedule, sent her on her way here with their credit card, and she only went to class for like 4 weeks and is now dropping out. Not only that, shes ‘too lazy’ to look into getting refunds for her residence or tuition because it's ‘not her money’. She also uses all my expensive makeup and has spilt it on my desk, leaves the packaging open for me to pick up and spill everywhere, eats in my bed when I'm not there, messes up my blankets and sheets (rips them off from rolling around and leaves them on the grimey floor), yells and screams obnoxiously, I could go on and on. I have never been in an environment where people are so rude and inconsiderate over their environment and peers.
Frosh Week
Frosh week is basically summer camp full of cheering and running around campus with your residence. It’s probably one of the most obnoxious and overwhelming experiences, in an attempt to distract you from the fact you are about to spend 3 months knee-deep in assignments and mymathlabs. I remember bursting into tears while in the middle of the hour long massive cheer-off in front of keating center on the first day. The parties werent even good, if you consider walking 10 mins to a house that has 200 people in it body-to-body and then having to walk back to campus after it gets shut down in 15 minutes ‘fun’. Probably the biggest waste of Laura Mercier setting powder, actually bought a 4$ elf powder for these unpromising nights. Everybody is eager to make friends, and since most of the population is white and priveledged, its basically high school 2.0. Lots of drama, lots of cliques, and they are not as friendly as your alumni aunt says they are.
I can see myself going to X...
