The Secret Freedom Fighters are definitely my favourite group in the comics so far. Maybe its because our regular band of heroes are split off into two teams, and thus, have half of their character removed and replaced with...Heavy and Bomb, but its clear the focus is on the secret guys. They even have cool outfits, which I only now notice are references to one of Silver’s alternate costume from the Sonic Rivals games.

Also, we never get to see much of the new Heavy and Bomb before the comics rebooted, but I kinda like how they have a C-3PO and R2-D2 dynamic going on.

Oh yeah, I forgot Tails Doll was even a thing in this comic. He’s been the villain’s spy for a while and now he’s making sure the city’s forcefield is down for an old-fashioned Badnik attack.

W-Why does Tails Doll make those sounds? What IS it?!

Man, seeing Eggman lose it (but not nearly as much as when he lost his sanity in #200) and proclaim that he should be winning despite all of these setbacks...really makes me wish these stories amounted to more than just filler before the reboot. I read from Lost Hedgehog Tales that this arc was supposed to be longer and that after Eggman won so many times and crushed the Freedom Fighters’ hopes, the heroes were to be on the rise and fight back.

Its just sad we never got any of that.

Seeing Big bring a weakened evil wizard to safety is kinda funny

Elias meets with the Secret Freedom Fighters, and the reader gets to see all of them together for the first time! Its a ragtag group of both cool and not so great characters I’m happy to see. Elias isn’t really happy to see them, but don’t worry, he changes his mind in the end.

I think these guys pretty much steal the show in this issue, because whenever they are the main focus, Team Freedom fighting Eggman’s robots is just white noise in the background.

Well, looks like we’re gonna hear from the Secret Freedom Fighters in the next Sonic Universe issue! I know I’m looking forward to an actually good story now. =v=

I will say, as much as I hate this story and how it goes nowhere, Steven Butler’s art is never not impressive to look at. There’s never a better way to see robots exploding and rockets flying.

Ooo, I like the look of the Metal Tails and Metal Amy models. They only appear in this issue and are quickly killed off, but they look neat here.
