They couldn’t have Julie-Su and Saffron here for legal reasons, nor could they mention them, but Knuckles having a silent meltdown over losing her to Thrash and the Chaotix silently consoling him is still pretty effective. Ray even spots Julie-Su’s blaster on the ground.
The two girls being missing is really felt here too. This whole ending for the red dude is just depressing, even if I find it hokey they he’s not said a word in this entire issue.
Sonic and Shard are gonna team up to beat up the Krudzu Hybrid Hydra monster, and that’s cool and all, but all I can think about is-
Everything wraps up nicely in the end, with Shard taking the Krudzu weed away to be experimented on to make a cure, Sonic gets a moment to comfort Amy in a surprisingly touching series of panels, and Tails forgives Shard for his past misdeeds...okay not really.
This ending coincides with the revelation that Mecha Sally is technically the “traitor” of the Freedom Fighters, and I guess that’s what the next issue will focus on? I don’t entirely remember.
But either way, I guess we’re looking at Sonic Universe #50 next!
While Knuckles and Thrash are having a brawl and tumbling into Warp Rings, they end up stumbling in on this elderly Tasmanian Devil in Downunda. I don’t know exactly the reason for this page’s existence, unless its to show just how terrified the Tasmanian Devils were of the Echidnas back in their heyday.
Didn’t Thrash say he was the last of his kind? I guess he left out these guys in the ruins in all his boasting, huh.
Of course, Shard looking just like Metal Sonic, the team end up fighting him, even as he tries to prove to them he wasn’t sent by Dr. Eggman to fight them. Its always disheartening to see how it affects Shard emotionally.
Man, I know Sonic’s going through a lot, what with a bunch of his friends going missing and the love of his life turning into a robot, but give Shard a break, man!
Krudzu is defeated in quite a shocking way; being torn to shreds and then being struck by lightning. I’ll always give it to Steven Butler for his outstanding detail in the pencilling.
