Royaldice obsessive/toxic stuff a la my best friend telling me to post them:
- the process of loading for a pippins is cracking their head open and digging into the soles of their feet
- this process is meant to hurt the pippins and inhibit them from doing much at first, it has major drawbacks so none of them even really like the idea
- that being said, battat needed to relearn how to walk when the king ordered him to be loaded
- not to mention it was an incredibly painful process that he needed to be awake for
- cue the process making him dependent on the king
- he cannot plan a coup, kill the king, etc etc because of this dependency, the ultimate failsafe for KoD
- for any pippins working close with royalty its a common practice, causing most to not take the job because of the procedure (it hadnt happened for a long time so battat was unaware (he still agreed when informed however))
- KoD: i trust you and love you so much but i need to be certain you do too, wont you fulfill your king's wish?
- so basically immediately after the procedure happened KoD carried Battat back to his bed to make sure he was comfy and safe, wiping his tears all the while, which really cemented that KoD "loved" him in his mind and just was taking precautions like he was supposed to
