took a look through the Stillfleet quickstart document. i wrote down a summary of the rules for my own benefit, included here if anyone else wants to review!
rules overview:
characters have 5 stats, COM (combat) MOV (movement) REA (reason) WIL (willpower) and CHA (charm). Initiative is rolled based on MOV stat
Stats are distributed between d20 and d4 (like KidsonBikes/NSBU). If you don't rest, you have to lower one of your die to the next level down.
Health and Grit, together represent your 'pool'. If your Health goes to 0, you cant move or take actions. If your total pool goes to 0, you die. (HEA = maxCOM +maxMOV. You spend Grit to use special abilities.)
There are abilities, boosts, and help actions that add modifiers to rolls, etc
Advantage and disadvantage are in play "due to a class power or some other effect"
Nat 1 is always a failure. (I think I'm reading this right:) If you roll at least the maximum value on your die, it's always a success
at each new level, a PC gains 6 points of pool to assign between HEA and GRT as desired as well as one new class power or advanced power.
This system looks really interesting to me. Noticing elements similar to KidsonBikes/NSBU, as well as Blades in the Dark. Definitely lots of narrative leverage!!
Classes: below are my guesses of the PC's classes. Once we know their classes I want to look more into their powers!!
Chee: Jackal/Mouse – Criminal or orphan—a stowaway on a venture: a liar and/or a thief. (I know they just played this kind of character lol but seems like erika's signature)
XL-ZL: Banshee – Co. pilot—a technology expert, trained to tack stiffworks OR Witness – Co. diplomat and anthropologist— a professional talker, able to make contact with any alien civilization, translate enigmatic languages, and (hopefully) smooth over misunderstandings.
Ze'Doven: Razi – Exoplanetary ranger—a scout, trained to track down anyone, tame any beast, and shoot any foe.
Species: There are a couple mentions of robots in the species, etc. But none that seem to match XL-ZL's description.. There are several types of humanoids
NPCs: Interestingly, the game says that every party needs a banshee, and if a player does not play one, a NPC will be assigned to their party. It seems like the kind of class Brennan would play, but if not, I wonder if they will have a permanent NPC, or maybe Aabria would give the necessary abilities to a non-banshee player
Plot: not sure how much they'll use the provided setting of system, but the main plot revolves around "hulks" which are giant dead spaceships that function like a dungeon in dnd. Players level up after each excursion out to a hulk, upon returning to the company-owned spaceship Spindle.
