Poem: Utopia
We the People wanted a utopia
we thought we could achieve it
Like one could find gold
it won't be easy
but if everyone works together
we the people can sift together
and get what we've always wanted
So we began to sift through the dirt
by the river bend
And began to realize that all we did did not work
our laws were not enough
our courts could not keep up
our law enforcers could not do much
our prisons were not reforming
our jails weren't big enough
for the criminals
ruining our city
There were people who were different
not like us
though they lived among us
We knew they were not like us
Our people began to tell us they were preventing our Utopia
They will tell you
"You are the problem!"
If you weren't here then everything would be perfect
They look down on you because you aren't like them
you are different
they can do without you
in fact they prefer it
So they moved you out
And they remained in their society
They looked around and said
"This still isn't perfect"
A man with one shoe limping by, arguing with a statue
"You are the problem!"
They said
The man with one shoe was thrown out
Without being bid adieu
Now that the town was rid of the crazy man
They sat a waited for their coming Utopia
They looked to someone else
"You are the problem!"
They said that person was preventing their perfect society
So they kicked that person and their imperfect family out
They looked around again and still noticed that nothing had changed
So they found someone else and said
"You are the problem!"
So they took that person
And other people like that person
And executed them
Surely after ridding their society of THOSE people
Their society would now be perfect
But after some time
They look around
And see still nothing has changed
They look at me
"You are the problem!"
So they chase me and anyone like me out of their society
They have kicked me out
Anyone like me
Everyone like the people before me
Out
So now surely everything must be perfect over there
I hear disgruntled people in the society
Though few of them now
They are loud in their disapproval of the ones that they continue to find
not fit for their utopia
They blame this new person and anyone like her
"You are the problem!"
I hear them shout over those pure white wires
What should we do with her?
I hear them ask each other
They have already reprimanded
chased out
exiled
even executed the other impurities
And with all this
They still haven't reached utopia
So they resolved to behead the imperfect one
Or two
Or three
Or just twenty three
Now their society is small
It has survived the impurities
It shall be strong
It shall be one
It shall live on
Indeed it will be one
But it shan't be strong
It shan't live on
Because that one
Has killed all
Til he returns to his thrown
Alone
After ridding the soil
Of the imperfections that dare to devitalize the purity of his land
Now that he has uprooted the weeds
Now that he has murdered the ones that he knows are hindering his utopia
He can now live in peace
Without the beasts
He alone will live in utopia
Because You won't be part of it
You who are impure
You who aren't perfect
He says
You, I must exterminate
He has told us
Now all alone
He will live in utopia
Loneliness will forever be with him
Solitude will be his state
He will long for another
But know
There is no other
He has executed them all
So now surely he can have his utopia
But alas he feels nothing
Sees nothing
Everything is the same as it was before
The only difference is
There is no more
No one
But him
Maybe it's you
Something he does not know what dares to ask
He looks around frightened
"Who said that!?"
You did,
It said
"You are the problem!"
It says
"No!" He screams
It mocks him
"No!" He pleas
It taunts him
It gets louder and louder
His ears are ring with its voice
Repeating over and over
Its you
It was you all along
"No it wasn't! They were the problem! I got rid of them because they were not worthy!" He gargles from his throat
I don't think so!
"Your wrong! Shut up! Shut up!"
How bout we put it to the test?
It mocks him
"Shut up! Show your face coward!"
The man yells in a sweaty panic
If you are right and I'm wrong then things should have changed shouldn't they?
It hummed
But your still here and it's all the same
It taunted
These words ringing wordlessly throughout the room
How bout we put you to the test?
It jeered
"But how!?" He asked in a plea
"How can I prove to you that I am!" The man asked
Simple!
It chastised
Get rid of the one thing in question!
It said
You! You! You!
Lets put it to the test!
It sang
The more it sang the more voices the man heard
"Who are you others! Come out!" The man yelped
The voices continue but no longer in unison
All the voices said different things
Some that sounded faintly familiar to him
Others sung
Others repeated It's words
The voices got louder and louder
The man became desperate
He whimpered as he moved towards his desk
The cacophonous sounds grew louder
But then they ended when the trigger was pulled
It was silent in the land
No one was there
Utopia was finally reached
Unfortunately the man didn't survive to see it
