" -- I know I said I was going to miss it, but I managed to beg one of my coworkers to cover the last hour of my shift so I could squeeze in at the end." Eloise had basically had to sell her soul and her left kidney to make it work, but scrambling and begging all day had finally gotten her coworker to agree to cover. The extra shifts she'd agreed to cover in return would be worth it, and so Eloise had found herself practically flying out of the Travelodge after changing into a floral print dress she knew she remembered Dee liking and quickly doing her make up in the bathroom mirror.
Eloise had managed to squeeze herself through the now-thinning crowd, smiling bright through all of those goddamn butterflies distracting her, fluttering and flapping away in her stomach. All these years later, damn near half her life, and Eloise found herself back to sweaty palms smoothing over her skirt and her heart racing away from her now that he was home. Three years gone was a long time. "So, surprise, I guess?"
