It took a little longer than I was hoping but here it is, my C2C spider stitch tutorial! I combined one of my favorite stitches, the spider stitch, with one of my favorite crochet techniques, the C2C method. I really love how the spider stitch looks as it runs diagonally instead of horizontally like with the regular spider stitch.

C2C SPIDER STITCH TUTORIAL
If you’re unfamiliar with spider stitch crochet, there’s plenty of tutorials out there online to take you through it, but for this just know that it’s made by working [sc, ch 1, sc] in the ch-1 space of the spider stitches of the previous row.
Stitch abbreviations (in US terms):
[ ]: everything in the brackets is worked in the same stitch
For this tutorial I’m using KnitPicks Dishie yarn, color Silver. Hook size H.
Note: You’re going to work in the ch-1 space made from the “ch 2, sc in the second ch from the hook” and that space might be hard to get to if you’re not used to it. So after chaining 2 at the start of the row, taking a stitch marker and placing it around the chain that’s closest to the hook before you make that sc in the second chain from the hook can help you find that space when it needs to be worked in the next row.
STARTING THE C2C SPIDER STITCH
Row 1: ch 2 and make a sc in the second ch from the hook.
Row 2: turn your work, ch 2 and make a sc in the second ch from the hook. Skip 1 stitch and make [sc, ch 1, sc] in the ch-1 space of the previous row.
Row 3: turn your work, ch 2 and make a sc in the second ch from the hook. Skip 1 stitch and make [sc, ch 1, sc] in the first ch-1 space of the previous row. Continue making [sc, ch 1, sc] in each ch-1 space, including the ch-1 space from the “ch 2, make a sc in the second ch from the hook” at the beginning of the previous row.
Your project is going to start looking triangular in shape. Keep repeating Row 3 until you reach the size you want.
To make a square, you’re going to decrease one set of [sc, ch 1, sc] every row. For example, if you begin your first decrease row with 6 sets of [sc, ch 1, sc], then the next row will start with 5 sets, the next row with 4, then 3, then 2 and finally 1. The end of your decrease rows will be when you have only one set of [sc, ch 1, sc] left.
Row 1: turn your work and ch 1. Make [sc, ch 1, sc] in the first ch-1 space and every other ch-1 space until the ch-1 space from the “ch 2, make a sc in the second ch from the hook” at the beginning of the previous row. At this ch-1 space, make a sl st.
Row 2: turn your work and ch 1. Make [sc, ch 1, sc] in the first ch-1 space and every other ch-1 space until the last ch-1 of the row. At this ch-1 space, make a sl st.
Keep repeating Row 2 until you get to the end. Your last row will have only one [sc, ch 1, sc].
After you work the last row you might need to do one extra step to match the other corners of the project. If you’re happy with the way your corners look, you can skip this. If you think this corner is rounder than the others you can do this extra finishing row:
Finishing Row: turn your work, ch 1 and make a sc in the ch-1 space of the previous row.
