Patronage: Monks, Nuns, Widows

Saint Paula of Rome was an intelligent and educated wife and mother in a happy marriage. After her husband died, she embraced the faith and lived an austere life. She was a beloved friend and assistant of St. Jerome. St. Paula established a monastery, convent, a church and hospices to help the poor. She is buried in Bethlehem, in the church of the Nativity.

Feast of Saint Jerome

Today is the feast of Saint Jerome; a priest, theologian and historian who retired to the desert to live a life of prayer and penance. It is said that St. Jerome once befriended a lion by removing a thorn from its paw, and he is often depicted with this companion.
