The Banner Saga by Stoic Studios

Full disclosure: For some strange reason that we can’t explain, we’ve actually never played through The Banner Saga. And yet, even since its first appearance years and years ago, we’ve kept the game on our radar, read about its epic storytelling, and marveled over its breathtaking artistry. Not only do we admire its classic, deceptively simplistic approach to art and animation, but also how it offers basic tactical mechanics with a respectable amount of intricacy.

But above all (and if you’ve read our other game inspiration posts, maybe you’ll notice a trend here), The Banner Saga inspires us and keeps us intrigued with its immense depth of world building. Simply by staring at a still illustration of its mythical Nordic environments, or of course while watching videos of its lovingly detailed cinematics, we are immediately transported to another place that only exists in The Banner Saga. Maybe it’s high time that we fully immerse ourselves in this remarkable world.
