Tonight, I did the stairs at Stone Door 5 times before calling it quits and taking in the view at golden hour ✨
Cursed...
Hey, have been working on a lot and made rewrites, written my ideas into my drive and so. Have been quite busy, but here you got one knew idea I got. This was fun writing these and I really hope you’ll enjoy it.
There is a Villain, Hero and Vigilante (who is the main right now).
Enjoy friends.
Vigilante gestured to a stone door, Hero was stunned by the door and touched the carved text. “What is this?!” Hero exclaimed and Vigilante didn’t understand.
“We have passed this room dozens of times,” Vigilante exclaimed surprised. “If it’s about the text. It’s Latin…” They opened the door and Hero winched by the pitch-black darkness, “Villain is in here. I hadn’t any other place…” Villain cried and Hero strained themselves out of fear. But wanted to help Villain, who cried and whimpered inside the dark.
“What have you done, Vigilante?!” Hero asked accusingly and Vigilante took it as an insult.
“NOTHING!” Vigilante exclaimed and disappeared into the darkness, “they have everything they would need in here.” To make it clear they pour water and the sound that filled the room. Wanted to help by filling a plastic cup, because Villain hadn’t, with no doubt dared to walk from the spot.
“Please… Vigilante, you have to let me out of here.” Villain weakly begged and reached for them. Vigilante helped them grab the cup and drink, “please…”
Vigilante soothed them, “drink this, and then we’ll leave here. You will be fine, Villain.”
Villain drunk the water between their sobs, “They want to kill me…” They had a hiccup and whimpered in fear.
Hero’s steps echoed in the room, “who wants you dead?” The door slammed and Vigilante tensed by the sound.
“The shadows, people… Whisper, screaming…” Villain whispered while Vigilante made their way to the door, testing the door soundlessly. Which Villain wasn’t. But the door was locked, exactly like it was supposed to be.
Hero paced and it wasn’t about the locked door. “It’s either guilt or fear, in this particular situation there’s no difference.” Vigilante lowered their voice and tried to not sound so annoyed. “Just ignore them.”
Hero hawked and found their way to Vigilante, they could feel Hero’s warm breathing. “Vigilante…” They whispered, “what is it?” Hero knew Vigilante better than anyone in this world and they’d have known Hero would catch on.
Vigilante opened their mouth to say the truth but hesitated. They remembered their own reaction, anger, and violence towards everything possible. Which wasn’t much. Hero put a sure hand on their shoulder when they found their shoulder. “We’re stuck… It’s no way of opening that door without a key.”
“WHAT?!” Hero exclaimed and pushed Vigilante hard into the wall. They grunted and tried not to fight back, “why didn’t you take that damn key?!” Hero screamed in fear and Vigilante understood exactly.
So they reassured them with a gesture, “Hero… I know, I never expected to be locked in here again by a stupid mistake. But we don’t want an accident, do we?” Hero loosened the grip and their breathing was uneven. “You don’t need to fear the dark.”
Hero calmed down their breathing and then went quiet, “again?” They breathed out, “have you been here before?”
Vigilante nodded and after a moment Hero hawked, then Vigilante remembered they couldn’t see any gestured. “I have. For more years then anyone can imagine.”
Hero must have noticed Vigilantes lack of panic and probably got it on their behalf. “You never told me that, what happened?”
Vigilante sighed and knew this would be a nightmare, “barely anyone knows and those who knew have forgotten about me.” The people who had let Vigilante out had been strange in a way they. Like they had been some kind of sorceress, “would you believe me if everybody I knew locked me inside of this prison…”
It was almost so Vigilante could here Hero swallow nervous, “what does the text mean on the door?”
“I don’t know. My Latin is a little rusty,” Vigilante confessed and decided to get comfortable on the couch beside Villain. They reached for them with a playful smile, “and before you ask. Yes, I can Latin.”
Villain rose up, “are you self taught, some kind of doctor or choose to learn?” The question was fair, Latin wasn’t that common these days.
“Neither, I didn’t have much of a choice. The catholic church can be a bitch…”
Hero stopped them right there by sit down on their legs, “did you go to catholic school?” That question was also fair, one that would reveal how old Vigilante really was.
“The catholic church had most of the power back then… Let’s say yes.” They tried to free their legs and push Hero away if they didn’t resist. “Hero…” They tried, but no use.
Now it was too quiet, like they tried to figure things out. “You’re strange, Vigilante.” Villain said and sat down on their torso and Vigilante lost some of their breath, “what do you mean with ‘back then’?”
Vigilante tried to get free and in distress, they gave up, “it means it wasn’t strange that the church had so much power around 1500…” Vigilante went limp and forced as much air in their lungs as possible and ignore the pain, “can you two please…”
“No” Villain was sure had balance on Vigilante they couldn’t break, “1500?”
Vigilante hissed and groaned, “born and raised…” Vigilante could feel more weight on them when Villain and Hero winch, “careful…!”
Hero rose up and soon Villains weight was gone too, Vigilante decided to give the couch to them. “You are saying, you’re born at the dark ages?” Both of them was clearly confused and didn’t want to believe it. While fear created anger, confusion made them ask things instead.
“Should I spell it out for you. As a child, my mother scared me with stories about the boogieman and other myths, I was forced to learn Latin… Which I find pretty hard to read these days.” Vigilante sighed and heard them sit down.
“You’re pretty good with a sword and don’t touch a gun if you have another choice.” Hero said and Villain surely had something to add but didn’t.
“You got to stop walk into my home without a call first, what I do in my free time is my business.” Vigilante hissed and sat in the middle of the room, Villain scoffed and laughed. Vigilante didn’t care rather they believed them or not.
“You’re insane!”
Vigilante just smirked and sniggered. “It’s people like you who made sure I ended up in a mental hospital for six months,” Vigilante muttered and remembered far too well to let it go, all of that confusion they felt. Thanks to the medication they got.
“Only six months?” Villain teased, “you must be a fast learner for being so old.”
Vigilante clenched their fists and Hero got between them, “how are you alive anyway?”
“I’m cursed to live forever. I’ve lived through deadly wounds, burning by fire, and believe it or not the plague.” Villain scoffed and didn’t believe that “you’re welcome to try and kill me, Villain. It’s painful, but I have been through worse.”
Someone rose up, probably Villain. “DON’T…! Nobody kills anybody here!” Hero screamed and Vigilante smirked, so predictable. “You’re really immortal, Vigilante? How?”
Vigilante knew Hero tried to believe, but even they had a hard time believe it. “Well… It was a while after I had been knighted, I tried to live up to my father’s name. So I fought off evil the best I could, I tried to kill a lonely witch. But they weren’t alone… I was found shortly after that and all I knew I was cursed.”
“Cursed…” Villain muttered.
Vigilante scoffed too, “Villain… I don’t care if you believe me, but I know my own story. I have lived this nightmare by myself for centuries! Betrayed by friends and family… Don’t think I need your sympathy for a second.”
“Vigilante!” Hero tried to hurry to them, but it was too late. Vigilante was up and with force tried to open the door.
“It’s no use!” Villain announced, but Vigilante knew. Yet they kept going, kicking and hitting. Groaning and hissed when their hand snapped.
“I KNOW!” Vigilante screamed and it echoed loud in the room, “I was cursed. My life was taken from me, my father and sister watched it. My mother watched them force me in here and heard my screams and begging!” Every hit and kick hurt against the sturdy stone, “I was a villain of my time. I had a shot of getting this curse revoked!”
Villain laughed, “you’ve got a hot temper, Vigilante. Maybe should go back to those meds?” Vigilante hissed and meet Villain in the middle. A mild fight escalated fast with pushing and weak hits, “but I’m sure not even the nuthouse wants you back.”
“VILLAIN!” Hero yelled and Vigilante acted out, lashed out against Villain and they fell down on the floor. “THIS IS ENOUGH!”
Vigilante was blinded by anger and terror, then voices appeared. They knew the voices from knights and their family. Even the detective whispered in their ear, “I never asked for this… Mother… Father, why didn’t you trust me?” They asked no one really if they just had had the chance to hunt that witch.
“The boogieman ain’t real” they whispered and when they heard Villain move they lashed out. If not hero came in the way, “the boogieman ain’t real.”
“Both of you to your neutral corner!” Vigilante slowly moved to a corner, respected Hero that much. “Villain, are you okay?” Villain murmured something, but they sounded fine. “Good, until someone finds us.” Hero sighed, “keep quiet.”
