People who mispronounce gemstone names after I’ve corrected them makes me unreasonably upset.
I’m not talking about little things, like SEE-lynn-ite versus CELL-in-ite [selenite]. I don’t so much mind little quirks like that, because I know that verbal ticks are different from region to region. But when you get them completely wrong . . .
“Where’s your peridite?” . . . “You mean pear-eh-DOH? [peridot]?” . . . “Yeah, peridite.”
“I need some lupis luzilu.” . . . Lapis lazuli.
“You said you have labradite?” . . . Labradorite.
“Do you have any seetrone?” . . . Took me a while, but I figured out she meant citrine.
I always gently correct people when they accidentally get the name wrong, but I think this lady’s doing it on purpose. *grumble*
