The old and the new in Downtown Manhattan, June 1974. Four and Two New York Plaza buildings after completion with the low-rise historic Pearl Street in the foreground. These remaining blocks of small row houses are now the life of Downtown, as workers, residents and tourists walk around and go to local restaurants and shops. You don't see that happening as much around the superblock office towers that cast a shadow several blocks long. Luckily all of Downtown wasn't turned into superblocks, the Pre-revolutionary Frances Tavern can see in the center of the picture!
