Today marks the 49th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. We sat down to write some words and share some stories to commemorate the day and QTPOC leaders who lead the revolution those early morning hours of June 28th, 1969. So we went in search of a graphic, or a video, or resource that would do just that, to honor Stormé DeLarverie, Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, all those who stood up and fought back. Quite literally, we googled "Stonewall 2018." Imagine the screaming that happened when we found this video and in the VERY FIRST frame, saw that the VERY FIRST fist proudly pumped in the air belonged to one of the youth we are so honored to know, from footage of last year's Central Alabama Pride, Inc. parade. Frames later we saw TAKE Resource Center. Frames later and the video counts down the prides, protests, and places over the years from 2018 to 1986 to 1978, 1973, all the way back to that night in 1969. We are so proud to be a part of a community that stands up for justice. We are so proud to see our own Birmingham community as descendants of this legacy. We are so proud of the youth that we follow with their fists pumped proudly in the air. Happy Pride. #instagrambham #LGBTQ #pride #lgbtqyouth #Repost @lgbtcenternyc with @get_repost ・・・ Were you or someone you know involved in the #Stonewall Riots or the early years of the LGBTQ rights movement?
