BUT if I did, itd be set during the time period of legends arceus and the location would be in hoenn, since its got the most diverse environments like ninjago (huge ocean, little islands, caves, desert, volcano, forests, grasslands etc etc etc) but also-
Its home to rayquaza. A green dragon. Green ninja.
Lorekeeper. Draconid people. Wu and garmadon forming the dragon tribe??? Or perhaps they WERE but then went their seperate ways and wu is rebuilding his ninja clan or whatever
The first meteor would not have hit sootopolis, but the lore of rayquaza stopping primal kyogre and groudon would be known. Tales of someone being destined to wish for Lord rayquaza's return in order to save the world from certain doom....
Finding the "weapons of creation" actually is them finding their dragon pokemon. In a world where most humans are still afraid of pokemon

Maybe theyd have another pokemon partner? Kai has his dads growlithe, nya oshawott, cole cubone, jay either minun or pachirisu, zane alolan vulpix, lloyd eevee or...riolu? Pancham? Or....kubfu 👀 (actually wait that one fits)
I havent thought of wu or garmadons pokemon or dragons. Maybe dragonite wu and salamence garmadon? Hold on what if they both have an urshifu????
Eventually the ninja become wardens to the regions noble pokemon....maybe a "hisuian" form to the pokemon based on their animal symbols (and maybe their parents were wardens before them. Plotline where the noble pokemon go missing...)
