Lifting Oil Export Ban Is Like ‘100 Keystone Pipelines’

Paul Ryan just compared something environmentalists don't like to something they really don't like.

It’s not often that environmentalists and Republican leadership in Congress agree, but they do on this one, troubling issue.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) said Monday that lifting the oil export ban, which was included in the $1.1 trillion omnibus bill, “is like having 100 Keystone pipelines.”

Nebraskans File New Lawsuits That Could Stop The Keystone XL Pipeline

Nebraska landowners have launched two separate lawsuits that, if successful, could serve to delay or even stop the construction of the controversial Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

The lawsuits, filed last week, represent Nebraska property owners’ second attempt to challenge the constitutionality of a law that gave the Keystone XL pipeline a legal route through the state and, by extension, their property. The landowners claim that TransCanada — the Canadian company that wants to build Keystone XL — made direct threats to use eminent domain and seize their land if they did not consent to having the pipeline run though it.

“The House has now signed our death warrants and the death warrants of our children and grandchildren. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe will not allow this pipeline through our lands. We are outraged at the lack of intergovernmental cooperation. We are a sovereign nation and we are not being treated as such. We will close our reservation borders to Keystone XL. Authorizing Keystone XL is an act of war against our people.” -President Scott of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe

Cyril Scott is taking the right action considering that the KXL would cut right through treaty-protected land. The Ft Laramie Treaty protects the reservation land of the Sioux Tribe in South Dakota, more than half the state. It is in the national constitution of the US that states the US shall honor its treaties. The Keystone XL is an out-right defiance against the treaty the US has agreed upon. What regard is there? What about the politicians in Congress that have given their vote of approval for the KXL? Where is their regard for the law, that they should be upholding? Where is their respect? for the people and the nation's own document that they are supposed to represent? The laws are established and the Indigenous Groups are ready to take action to make sure the US stays true their commitments. Movements and support is gaining. Should the government approve this KXL they will encounter a very strong opposition.

Environmental Journal #1

Indigenous Groups are gaining social clout, which is something they deserve. One can see this in the resistances and protests IGs have participated in and more importantly, led. They have led climate marches of over 40,000 people, some of the largest climate protests of all time. I'm happy that such a marginalized group of people are creating a ruckus that can really shake things up for the people that have marginalized them. Even more important is that all that shaking is shaking for a better future, a better world. How can more people not be on board with them? With these climate protests and marches? But no, they're distracted by their cheap video games and quick thrill Vines. I'm guilty of this also and I question how I can go about my day when we are in a crisis. A crisis in which, in order for us to save ourselves, needs the degree of effort of masses of people. It's good that there are protests however, and these protests are growing in size and influence as evidenced by the climate gatherings going on in Washington DC in the past 2-3 years. The Lakota people has an organization that instructs other communities to take direct action in a non-violent manner. Debbie Plume, whom leads this has powerful message and the awesome part is that she is getting it out there. More people need to know that people's livelihoods are at risk RIGHT NOW. People within their own nation. But of course, to be cynical, and even realistic, they won't care, even realize it, until it hits them, until their livelihood is at stake. That won't save us though, because with that attitude we won't act in time. We'll be fucked by then, fucked by the people who control us without us knowing, without us being aware they are even fucking us and shitting in our mouths. I will leave off with this, if you are in my generation (I am 20 years old) then the shit will hit the fan in your lifetime. It's coming, be wary.
