Since you share a name with the green line stop I use, maybe you can answer this question for me: why is it spelled with 1 L? Elliot Street is nearby but spelled with 2 L's, do you know why the station would be spelled differently (since I assume it's named in relation to the street)? I have yet to see a definitive answer anywhere.
im not 100% sure, but i think it has to do with the eliot family. the station name dates back to its construction as a Boston & Albany station in 1888, and none of the other newton stations are named after streets. as for why elliot street isnt eliot street, that remains a mystery. there are a bunch of other eliot streets/roads/etc in the greater boston area though.
