i’m trying to understand what is going on in colombia right now but i haven’t been able to find a great source, would you ind explaining? also as a kid, what can i do to help? <3
As far as i understand (I’m mexican so I’m still trying to find info too) the government tried to raise the prices of basic products such as rice, paper, etc. And the people evidently protested. That was the beginning.
Colombia is a country where people barely manage to earn just enough to survive, so raising the price on these products to 20% was simply inhumane. From that, protests were made against the government, but police elements were deployed to contain the protesters and things got out of control when they started shooting at the people who were protesting peacefully.
There have been kidnappings, disappearances, rapes and cold-blooded killings. They have even sent helicopters to shoot civilians from above. They are cutting off the power and the internet and the media are being censored to prevent the rest of the world from finding out what is happening.
As a minor, the best thing you can do is use the hashtags to continue sharing the information and help more people find out.
