āDark skin is not a crime. Light skin is not a prize.ā ā Anan$i
Colorism is a practice of discrimination by which those with lighter skin are treated more favorably than those with darker skin. Moreover, according to Mirriam Webster Dictionary, colorism is a prejudice or discrimination especially within a racial or ethnic group favoring people with lighter skin over those with darker skin. In many aspects there are many evidence of discrimination based on skin color in criminal justice, business, the economy, housing, health care, media, and politics in the United States and Europe as time goes by the discrimination spread all over the world.
In the Philippines, Filipinos is still experiencing discrimination about their skin tone color. It can be observed in National Television, Malls, Public places, workplace and other places. However, it does not necessarily reflect the look of the average Filipino. The saturation of white-skin ideology in a society whose natural skin color is typically brown are marginalizing Filipinos into thinking that there is only one type of beauty: white. In other countries, they also experienced the so-called colorism, such as Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, China, Africa and other more countries. One message; White people are more favorably than black people.
Everyone matters: colorism is a page where discussion and other peopleās point of view are involved. This will be a great way to educate other people, and to also understand the issue itself. Being involved is an important aspect in the society, it creates a more peaceful and free environment for everyone, and thatāis our goal.
