Nfkdnfkdndldk hello yes hi i am Red Dead trash and slowly finding blogs and I just wanna thank you for being one of the only people I’ve seen that actually likes Mary it’s so refreshing 😭😭 she deserves the WORLD and I’m sad Arthur couldn’t give it to her 💔💔
mary does deserve the world! i was totally charmed by her in each of her missions during my first playthrough, and i wish i could say i was surprised when i came back to tumblr & saw the kind of hate that gets posted to her tag, but i sadly wasn’t.
she and arthur are equally entitled to their happiness and their own agency over their lives, and unfortunately the two of them could never have worked in the long run given the choices they both made and the nature of their lives. that doesn’t make either one of them wrong; it makes them both human.
also i think i’ve ranted this before in some tags on other mary defence posts, but my read of everything is that mary was designed to represent civilisation, and all the things that come with it, like laws, and propriety. in canon, arthur operates outside the lines of those things by necessity and circumstance, and most of the time, by choice. he and mary were always going to be incompatible unless one of them was able/willing to bend in a way they weren’t designed to. all the chemistry and attraction and affection in the world wasn’t going to be enough to make them work together. he was never meant to live by civilisation’s rules (nor would he really have wanted to), and she was never meant to live outside them (nor should she be forced to just because she loves arthur).
