Your thoughts on Dunmer & Argonian romantic relationships?

'Dear reader,

An interesting question. I've certainly seen all sorts of relationships between races, but that sort of pairing makes for scintillating dinner table conversation. Should historic slavemasters be in love with their slaves? Most anyone would say no.

While I'm not most anyone, I've collected tales of bitter and sometimes misplaced revenge between Dunmer and Argonians. There is one story of ill-fated lovers who tried to escape Morrowind. After they crossed the border, the Dunmer was shot by Saxhleel who earnestly believed they were freeing their kin.

It's difficult for the two races to co-exist, let alone be happy in love. I think of it a bit like mixing ash and mud: one comes from a land of fire, and another from a land of water, and both seem quite the opposite to one another. But when you combine the two, they eventually harden as sturdy as stone. I like to think there's a tenuous balance between Dark Elves and Argonians that makes for stronger bonds than any other.

After all, is it not more powerful to love despite enmity?

How many articles of clothing *does* Stops-His-Heart currently own? I read that Bloodies-His-Face once said "Maybe my armory is as full as Stops' wardrobe".

Might I say that is a somewhat personal question? Not to mention we don't typically keep records that have to do with topics so mundane. Nevertheless, I took the time to forward this line of enquiry on and I have since received a response, which I have attached below:

Thank you for sending through the question, and again I apologise for my rhetoric that landed you in this predicament.

It took me the better half of an hour but I counted at least ninety-seven articles of clothing in the one wardrobe. I feel I need to stress that this was just the one wardrobe I know of, so maybe multiply that count by about nine? He always tells me it makes it easier to travel if the clothing is available in the region, so...

Hopefully that answers the question!

Hopefully that satisfies your curiosity. In the future, might I recommend more scholarly questions? We collect a variety of texts to do with worldly matters, such as Cyrodiilic receipts or the cultural interactions of goblins and minotaurs, and I would be much more elated to be gathering those records rather than forwarding questions of trivia.

Follow up question to the OC question I asked a few months back. What classes are your OCs proficient in? This can include custom classes too.

I have always found it bizarre that some people feel the need to categorise everyone by certain 'classes'. By all means, most people do fit criteria to be classed as, say, warriors or mages. But many would feel insulted to be put in a sort of box, and certainly if you mistakenly classify a battlemage as a spellsword (they do not take kindly to it).

Nevertheless, I have since expanded on the list from last time, and have compiled their names into a ledger that I will maintain. I've classified every person in there as best I could, but it also includes details such as 'hometown' and 'race' if those interest you.

I've included a copy of the ledger with my letter. Enjoy.

What’s your favorite flavor of Hist sap?

Dear reader,

I will preface by saying that is an odd question, but I'll humour you.

While there aren't any records I could find (as of yet, anyhow) that describe the taste of Hist sap, I know from personal experience that it is as varied as you suggest.

Though most samples of Hist sap are visually similar, with some Hist trees producing unique colours and textures of sap, there are indeed different flavours one can experience from one Hist tree to another but there is usually a consistent balance of sweetness and bitterness.

All the same, it is for the best that Hist sap doesn't taste like, say, maple sap. Even for Argonians, it can be toxic in large amounts. Best enjoyed in moderation, hence the phrase 'lick the sap'.

As for my favourite sap I've tasted? I have a modest bottle of sap taken from the chilling Hist of the Frost-Scale tribe, who live deep in the lost swamps of Black Marsh. Imagine the taste and feeling of honeyberry syrup that cools on your tongue, accented with almost a biting spearmint aftertaste. There's nothing quite like it.

I have included a modest rendition with my letter. Perhaps I will return to my homeland to gather stories sometime soon.

How many OCs have you made so far?

'Dear reader,

It took me the better part of two hours to compile the attached alphabetised list of names that I could find scattered across the archives, but I did it.

For brevity: the number of notable characters documented so far counts at 130, of which at least a dozen are not yet officially filed in the archives.

If I get enough letters and enough time, then I will also convert the list into a directory with which you and other readers can ask the archivists for all documents pertaining to each character.

For now, please let me have my lunch.

As an occasional reader, I must admit feeling a certain fondness for the adventures of your gaggle of Saxhleel, fantastical as they may be sometimes. I too am occasionally known to embellish - laying eyes on the Dragonfires, for instance? Ridiculous, although certainly compelling.

Regardless of the amount and intent of artistic liberty taken, however, I see it as my duty as an upstanding member of the Barristers' Guild to remind you that discussing contract killing within your writings (and presenting it as fact, no less) is, as one may expect, dangerous, and has every possibility of getting yourself or your muses prosecuted as assassins should the wrong eye fall across your work. As a man of letters, I'm sure I hardly need to remind you that murder carries with it no statute of limitations.

Consider it free legal advice. And write about Mistral more, I miss the beaches.

I will confess I am guilty of being somewhat biased when I am collecting records, and you'll probably see more to do with noteworthy Argonian figures. I sometimes find Tamrielic histories to be remiss in remembering that they exist... However, I will not attempt to dissuade you on the veracity of some of these accounts. After all, I am but a simple archivist.

On that note, I am quite unsure as to what you're suggesting. My line of work in acquiring information for the Dragonclaw Archive certainly can be dangerous. And the written work you refer to could be, as you said yourself, quite an embellishment in itself. Besides: Cyrodiil has been in such violent freefall for the last few years, so I am not so worried about Imperial guards banging on our doors here at Fort Dragonclaw. Regardless, I thank your for the advice.

Mistral, eh? I'll be collecting records from Khenarthi's Roost next week; I shall try to find anything more to do with the beach culture they have there. Be sure to check back then.

These are interesting on their own, but eventually become frustratingly scant. I think you'd have a lot more success if you took these characters and dropped them into something longer-form!

First of all, thank you for your feedback. We get very few letters here at the Dragonclaw Archive. As such, I have taken the time to address yours properly.

In terms of 'longer-form', we do actually have two options: There is a section where we keep letters and excerpts; if those are not enough, the other option is to peruse the collection of tomes that some of those excerpts are copied from. Please bear in mind that we build up these collections slowly over time.

As for our conventional archives, they contain numerous records from across Tamriel. Scant though they may be, these records still offer insights into different people, cultures, religion and so on. They are collected regularly, and I am at least glad they have frequency. It is better than nothing, as they say.

Again, I am grateful for your feedback. I hope this response offered clarity. If there is anything more you or anyone else wish to discuss or comment on, feel free to mail again.
