Stop the Coup
Britain’s Democracy Seriously At Risk
Hey so some really bad stuff is going down and I am again using my blog as a platform to make sure people know what. Brexit, as you probably know is the big deal in our politics right now. A quick vote was called to see if we leave the European Union or not, an institution designed mostly to stop Europe from destroying each other a la world wars. The short run up to the referendum was incredibly devisive and the team leading the campaign to leave the EU broke electoral rules on spending. A racist stabbed a member of parliament in broad daylight a week before the vote and then to everyone’s surprise it passed 51% in favour. The Prime minister at the time resigned, and his replacement promised to deal with Brexit, but because removing fifty years of laws overnight is all but impossible, they struggled to do anything and then quit anyway. Now one of the people who arguably spent the most time and money campaigning for the UK to leave, Boris Johnson was basically the only person left in the government, and because party members voted for him, he became the new de facto leader. He did not win a general election, meaning he is essentially the unelected leader of the country. So far he spent all his time travelling around the country praising the police and said that no matter what, we would leave the EU without a deal on Halloween (Yes really). No-deal Brexit is the worst kind of Brexit. The vote leave team did not say this was their intention. There are so many aspects of Britain that are tied to prior agreements with Europe under the EU that they all need to be renegotiated. But we didn’t do any work on that, we just wasted their time asking for things they couldn’t give. If we have a no-deal Brexit we will end up with travel locks, food and medicine shortages, and the government has already said it will enforce MARTIAL LAW if it needs to curb chaos. Now, just over a month away, The Prime Minister has suddenly taken the action to suspend parliament - blocking them from being able to debate Brexit, set laws into motion or even as was already being discussed, remove him from power. THIS IS REALLY BAD!! Even if, somehow, you still believed in Brexit or even no-deal Brexit, this is resoundingly bad. If Parliament can just be suspended to prevent stopping an unelected Leader of the Country, everything we have in place to support our democracy is at risk. This is deliberate to force his agenda against accountability and keep him in power. And on top of everything as we crash out of the EU without so much as a deal there will be chaos and he may very well call martial law.
Stop The Coup
London, August 2019
We interrupt this crafting page to bring you POLITICS! In short, the vile lot in charge of UK politics right now have decided to suspend parliament so there is a very high chance of the UK leaving the EU with NO PLAN WHATSOEVER. Hey what do they care? It'll only starve and kill the poor people who need money to buy food or rely on a regular supply of medicines! I am not able to join protests tonight, but I am in support of those who are out there. To our politicians: You shut down the parliament, we shut down the streets. #StopTheCoup #UK #POLITICS #Bollockstobrexit #HereWeGo https://www.instagram.com/p/B1uGvDYHrYd/?igshid=o448hd4sfyt5

A few of the more amusing placards from today's #StopTheCoup protest, Downing Street, London, UK, 31/08/2019.
Protesting against the decision of the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to prorogate parliament for 5 weeks, thereby reducing the amount of time available for MPs to debate/pass/introduce legislation before the Brexit deadline of 31/10/2019. With the UK about to crash out of the EU with no exit deal in place, we need more parliamentary time at the moment, not less. But, less helps Boris hold on to his fragile grip on his party/the premiership/his career, and so it starts to look like a threat to the parliamentary democracy he promised to uphold.
No one voted for you Boris. Fuck. Off.
"Bojo, Trump's little Johnson."
"We didn't consent to this BJ."
"Rees-Mogg looks like a baby dressed as an arsehole."
And there were loads more too, but it can be surprisingly difficult to get a legible photo of a sign in a shifting crowd of people.
