Roskilde Festival is one of the largest music and arts festivals in Northern Europe. Every year since 1971, just one year after the birth of Glastonbury, the festival takes over a site called the Animal Showgrounds: a temporary city with the capacity to host 130,000 guests, artists, volunteers and collaborators. When Roskilde is up and running it becomes the fourth largest city in Denmark.

Engaging citizens

A thought crossed our minds today. Wouldn’t it be pretty awesome if we could regard unused public structures across the world as a point of information dissemination for more active citizenry and awareness. What if, this little initiative by us- to tell stories of architecture around these structures like the phoneboxes were to go viral? We’d be chuffed, alright (hell, yeah!)- but pretty excited about the possibilities it may present in every different context.

Some of these phoneboxes really smell. They’re fetid. For icons loved by tourists and Londoners alike, sometimes you really don’t want to even touch them. We’d like them to be accessible. We’d like to introduce an element of play through these signs. We think it would make them safer and nicer ‘places’ to interact with.

In order to convince the LFA committee and BT of our project and intentions, here's some of the renders we came up with. The actual installations look fairly similar, much to our delight and have been spotted and spoken of on many a newsfeed recently! Looking forward to hearing from more discoverers!
