Hm. Serious business.
Do you offer submission forms for preorders it holds. I had asked for a certain cover to be held, but when I picked it up it wasn’t the cover I requested. There are more variants that I would like to purchase locally, but I don’t want to encounter that mishap again
Yes, we do offer preorders as well as an ongoing subscription service. For the latter, you just need to stop by and fill out a submission form (or print one off our website and drop it off or scan/email it back to us!). In the meantime, what issue and cover were you looking for? If were are still able to order it, I would like to get the correct issue so we can make your order right. I am sorry for the mix-up!
Comic covers can unfortunately be tricky. We do our best to get everybody the specific cover they want, but sometimes we don’t receive all the varied covers for an issue at the same time. Sometimes the publisher changes the artist or design of a cover between the time it was ordered and the time it ships. Other times we may not have any copies of a particular cover on order at all, if no one pre-ordered that cover by the time of our final order cutoff date...
And then there are incentive variants. Often we don’t order enough copies to qualify for the rarest covers -- and we cannot pre-order and hold incentive covers for customers. There’s just no way for us to do that fairly, given that the number of copies we receive are usually fewer than the number of customers we have interested! The only way we could hold an incentive cover for someone would be if they pre-order (and, of course, then purchase!) the number of copies needed to qualify for that cover. Then we’ll be happy to get you the corresponding incentive variant, too! Just keep in mind that should you choose that option, you’ll need to have your order in before the publisher’s final order cutoff date so we can order enough extra copies!
ALSO customers today in general were kind of uppity.
a lot of them wanted rain checks on a product that we no longer have in stock, and we were told not to give any bc it was like a limited edition kind of thing and they had no idea if they were going to get any in any time soon.
and in the beginning of the day there was this one client. This one fucking client. After having the general store manager explain this to her, she demanded it be done anyway. Because oh look, another store of the same name in another city did it, so it can be done, and i want one for here bc im closer, and yada yada yada. im spiteful and petty and i hope we dont get any in for like a month, making her rain check void.
the others were chill, mostly, but then another woman, (why is it always middle-aged white women?) asked for one, and i explained we couldn’t, and then she asked me to point to the manager bc she wanted to speak to her. and i was sighing internally bc great, she’s going to complain about me to my boss and im probably going to get scolded and she’s going to walk away with a rain check. great.
BUT THEN. She asked for a rain check from my boss, and my boss called the store manager via the internal phone system to double check whether we could, and he said no, so she told the customer no, AND THAT WAS GENUINELY ONE OF THE BEST MOMENTS OF THE DAY FOR ME.
Mini rant
Throwback to that one time someone who had a service dog made a whole store change their policy because it was a pet friendly store...... thank u, next.
Sorry that someone else’s dog was barking at your service dog, but you can’t just make the store change it’s policy because someone brought their dog into a store when they shouldn’t have. Don’t blame the store, blame the handler. Now if someone wants to bring their perfectly trained pet into the store, they can’t. They’ll have to leave them outside (unsafe), home alone (unsafe), or in the car (unsafe). Not to mention, if someone wanted to bring their dog there, and was unaware the policy had changed, and brought their dog, they would have had to go all the way back home or leave their dog outside, in the car, ect.
Moral of the story is, don’t change a stores policy just because of one persons dog. Yes it’s extremely unsafe to have a service dog distracted, but that’s not the stores fault, it’s yours and the other handler. You should have checked online if the store allowed all dogs, looked for signs outside the store sayin if the store allowed all dogs, asked an employee if the store allowed all dogs, ect. Don’t ruin the fun for everyone else because you didn’t check to see if the store was pet friendly.
Get your want-list ready for ONE MORE DAY of curbside pick-up before Comix Connection CLOSES for the foreseeable future, effective 6pm today, March 20th!
Some quick tips and reminders before you drive over:
1. Please STAY IN YOUR CAR! We'll get to everyone as quickly as we can, but the last thing we want is people lining-up at the door and forming exactly the sort of crowd we closed to avoid! We promise not to close as long as there are people in line--think of us like the voting booth! If you're here by six, you're covered even if we go a little over time!
2. We can take credit cards and cash at the curb, but we STRONGLY recommend that you call your payment in by phone ahead of time if you can instead to minimize contact! (If you call it in, we take a security question instead of a signature, so you don't touch anything but your books!)
3. If you don't have any books waiting --or don't want to risk the trip-- but still want to help us weather this strife, we are extremely happy and grateful for all GIFT CERTIFICATES purchased right now. We can tuck them away safely for you, ready to use when the pandemic abates and the store re-opens for regular business!
4. If you get a busy signal or an unanswered ring, just try back in a few minutes! We only have the one phone line, so it probably just means that you called at the same time as someone else...or that we were running stuff outside when you rang and couldn't get back in time!
5. We'll be responding to online messages as quickly as we can too, but there's only the one computer and it doubles as the register too, so don't panic if it takes us a bit! (Especially if you've sent a list of books you want, because we'll want to actually have those in hand before we say we have them ready!) And if you can, send in your requests early so we can prepare them in advance before you drive over!
6. We'll be prioritizing safety and sanitation over speed, so please be patient! Thing are going to be running a little slower than usual...but hopefully it will all pay-off by keeping everyone safe and healthy AND entertained! If you have individual concerns or questions about anything, don't hesitate to call and ask!
7. Want your comics but don't want to come get them? Call and pay today, and let us know that you want to have your books mailed-out instead!
We appreciate your continued support and patronage so, so much during this difficult and scary time. As things evolve, we'll keep everybody updated as quick as we can. Thank you everybody, stay safe out there until we see you again...and as always, happy reading!
In hopes of helping to stifle the spread of COVID-19, COMIX CONNECTION is temporarily “closing” its doors...but you can STILL GET YOUR COMICS!
That’s right, for the foreseeable future both Comix Connection locations will be switching to call-ahead curbside pick-up! What does this mean for YOU?
Stores will be staffed from 12-6 every day, but our doors will be locked and no customers will be permitted inside. Instead, we ask that you call or message us online to make your order.
You can pick up your subscription box, or simply request any comics, graphics novels, or collectibles that we have on the shelves. (We’ll be posting pictures of the week’s new books on our facebook for all your digital-shopping needs!) We’ll either charge you over the phone or take your card or cash when you get here (please DO NOT send credit card details through online messages!) and then when you arrive, give us a call and we’ll run your books right out to your car window with the absolute minimum of human contact!
The hardest part will be resisting the urge to chat, but we promise to restrain ourselves! And yes, we serve Spider-mobiles and Bat-copters too!
We are also very happy to take phoned-in payments for your weekly subscriptions even if you don’t want to pick them up yet, or for gift cards to set aside in your box for later!
We apologize for the inconvenience, and please know that we very much appreciate your business during this difficult time! Small businesses are going to be especially hard-hit by this upheaval, especially those who --like us!-- have a weekly business model. Your continued loyal patronage is what will let us keep above water so that we can reopen the doors when life returns to normal and we can continue helping put you in touch with great comics for another thirty-two years! THANK YOU. Stay safe, everybody!
