"I know the captain's worried, but..." Sam shifts in his seat, wanting to make a break for it. It's normal to be stressed after bad things happen, right? No need to make a big deal out of it.

"I'm really fine. I don't know, uh, what I should talk about."

" he doesn't like being on the water on a good day -- as an uncertified prince of the air, despite being so new to it, he'd prefer to be in the skies away from pretentiousness -- but he wasn't here as an aeronaut. he was here as a hired gun on an expedition to temples in too hot places.

evelyn was the only person on this boat who didn't glare when he asks a question. she explained things with enthusiasm the way they should be, not with the assumption he was a fool. he liked that about her. the pretty face & piercing, intelligent eyes weren't so bad, either.

despite what her file and reputation might suggest, christine is not allergic to following orders. present her with a good, fair order, and she’ll happily follow it, even spare her superior officer whatever witty comeback is dancing behind her lips. but it’s gotta be good. logical. decent. now, that’s the word. nothing short of decent is going to get her to act without questions; it is not a game to her. if she disobeys orders, it is not for a lark, even if she is good at acting like it is — it is because it is the right thing to do.

that’s the standard she holds herself to.

which is why she completely ignores beverly’s order. sparring half a scoff in the direction of the redhead, christine shifts her attention back to the tricorder in her hands, attempting to piece together an escape with nothing more than the clothes on her back, and the smidge of luck she carries.

there is fatigue in the grim look she throws the admiral from across her ready room as the comms channel closes and the image disappears, screen going dark. something had changed since their last meeting with the udori ministers, the hostility that had temporarily faded ( or at least masked itself behind pleasantries ) flaring once more into life.

she had been so close to believing that they were actually nearing an understanding, only for the udori to completely turn upon a dime, reject it all, and leave them right where they started. beneath the worry, beneath the fatigue, anger flares briefly before subsiding to a lower simmer.

“I’m stationed on the USS Discovery…” the name was thrown out there, as if she was answering what colour the sky was, unaware of the history that was to come with the ship, how it would disappear one day in the middle of a battle and never come home. All lost. A future she knew nothing of, and seemingly, despite time travel, wouldn’t escape.

“We were on an exoplanet in the system, studying an anomaly when we were hit by an energy field.” She recalled. We were trying to get back to the ship when…” everything went wrong, and yet she couldn’t remember it clearly. “We attempted to transport back to Discovery.” Clearly it hadn’t ended well.

Though, she might just have been leaving out the fact that they had been much further from home than they should have been…jumping out into the Delta quadrant for a covery operation wasn’t exactly the kind of thing you discussed with a stranger…even if they were a captain.

removing the high heel that was pinching her heel, she lets out a rather dramatic sigh. rose loves her wardrobe and accessories and shoes ( oh, the shoes! ) but the day can be rather long when her toes are blistering in restrictive footwear. especially for the days where they do nothing but sit around and let people take awfully staged photographs of how the two royal families of genovia and vobuvoria are becoming good friends. she already considers princess mia a friend, why must they make a show of it? holding the strap of the heel in one hand, she grabs mia's hand with the other, pulling her into an empty room with another dramatic sigh.

' her uncle already has a match made for her. rather medieval, if you ask rose. ❝ everyone's been telling me that it's normal and that they're doing the same with you, but i'm not too certain. ❞
