I am obsessed with the way the camera pans away to Kai.

That Jaya wedding headcannon post reminded me of a draft buried in my WIPs.
Nya was panting heavily, rubbing her chest where the scar from her death should be. She sat curled up on her bed hugging her legs with her other arm. She could still feel the burn of the venom from her dream, the heavy layers of the hideous djinn wedding dress both drowning her and squeezing her, the rancid heat of his breath on her skin as he taunted her and forced that wedding to happen.
A soothing hand stroked up and down her back, leaving a tingling trail. Lightning. Just enough of a spark to cut through the force of her nightmare, enough to convince her tortured mind that it was her love, that she was safe.
“How do we know he won’t come back?” She whispered into the darkness. “He twisted every other wish.”
“I think this is the twisting - that he gets to keep torturing us with the memories.” Jay drew Nya back into his arms, leaning himself against the wall beside her bed. She turned and buried herself in his chest. He could feel her tears through the old t-shirt he'd worn to bed.
“What if,” she mumbled into his chest. “What if they’re a warning, so we’ll be prepared when he’s let out again. So we know better than to let the worst happen.”
“Then we’re good, right?” Jay brushed her hair back from her face tenderly. “I’d never screw up and treat you like that again. We make sure everyone takes ‘don’t be alone’ seriously. He won’t take me again, but if he did, I have absolute faith that I can survive it and you and the others will come for me.” He paused, laying soft kisses on the top of her head. “I’d never let it get so far as a wedding again. No more weddings for you unless you’re marrying me.” Nya stiffened in his arms. “I mean... You know... Only if you wanted to. A long time in the future. What makes you happy makes me happy.”
She straightened, cupping his face in her hands and making him look her in the eye. “You make me happy.” Her lips met his briefly, and all thoughts fled from him. As if by unspoken agreement, both laid back down, his arms around her and her head on his shoulder. He drifted back to sleep easily, secure in knowing both were safe.
Nya laid awake for a long time, turning an idea around and around in her head. It was crazy. They were so young. But Jay loved her, she knew that. And she’d finally managed to admit to herself that she’d loved him for just as long. She’d just been… dumb. Insecure. Scared.
But she couldn’t escape the idea twisting and turning through her thoughts. No one, not even a crazed djinn, could force her to marry them if she was already married…
I made note of this during my first watch through, but the wink.
GUYS. Jay WINKED at Nya.
I'm pretty sure we haven't seen a Jay wink since all the way back in Season 5... so I'm counting this as a win.
Not to mention, this is the first time we see him wink at Nya! We now have a Jay wink for every character in the show!
Okay okay okay so I mentioned this when I live posted during my first watch of the episode, but the SKYBOUND PARALLELS GUYS
First, Jay doesn't know the Spinjitzu move to cross the gap and escape the dragons.
Pretty much identical, from the scenario to the staging, of how Nya hadn't yet mastered Airjitzu and couldn't hide from the paparazzi back in S6.
BUT in the very same episode of DR, Nya uses her Spinjitzu to drag Jay to safety.
Again, abundantly similar to how Jay brought Nya into his Airjitzu bubble so they could avoid the police in S6.
DO YOU SEE IT???
I love that Nya and Jay are the two sides of the Yin and Yang pendant, while P.I.X.A.L. and Zane are the two halves of the same heart.
Nya and Jay are the opposites attract. The girl who feels like she needs to do it all on her own and the guy who can't fathom being without her. The sea and her sky. The "I trust you" to his "I love you." The scrap of memory hidden beneath amnesia and the goodness buried within a shattered soul. Never getting a break but always choosing each other.
P.I.X.A.L. and Zane are the constant beat in both of their bodies. The one who is always forgotten and the one who remembers her despite the ofds. The Nindroid who is always breaking and the Samurai who fixes him time and time again. The work as one when surrounded on all sides. Always compatible no matter how much they may change.
I like the suggestion that Nya and Jay's relationship still isn't entirely back.
Obviously they are very much in love again and all of that. But that still doesn't erase the years they've been separated and the horrible things Jay did without his memories to hurt her.
Nya has forgiven him... but she still braces herself a little bit. And I think that's totally normal.
Jay, for his part, is growing back into the person he wants to be for Nya. And that means gently and persistently reminding her how much he loves her... just as she gently and persistently reminded him of her love in Season 3.
Last season, Nya was the one telling Jay that she loved him and that he belonged. This season, Jay is the one promising Nya that he isn't going anywhere.
Even Jay with memory loss can't help but be in love with his girl. His whole body and mind and heart needs Nya, he just can't help it.
Jay: Somewhere out there, my soul mate is waiting for me...
Jay: I can't be with anyone else until I find her...
Jay: Because if I do...
Jay: My soul mate will probably murder them. So it's really for the Merlopian's safety for her to stay single, you know?
I think Jay and Nya should get a honeymoon season, like Zane and P.I.X.A.L.
I mean, it would kill me to lose Nya for a season, and Jay too, especially since we just got him back.
But also, they deserve it. They deserve ten episodes to do nothing but love each other.
If nothing else, I hope whatever they're going off to do right now (let's just say, play a rousing round of Dancy Pants at the arcade) begins to make up for the years of separation they've spent waiting for this very moment.
