had a thought about little dysfunctional siblings Kai and Nya trying so desperately to make it work after losing their parents but failing miserably at it because they're just little kids. They argue a lot, they yell at each other, Nya runs away from the house one day in tears, and because Kai isn't a grownup he doesn't come looking for her for many hours.
Suddenly he can't find her. He starts asking around in the village if anyone's seen her. It's getting dark outside, so some kindhearted people light up some lanterns and go out to look for her. They find one of her sandals floating on the lake. Everyone freaks out. Little Kai is crying as people start looking in the water for her body, he starts thinking about if maybe she drowned and what is he gonna tell their presumably dead parents if they ever come back home. And then little Nya shows up by the shore, soaked through, as if she'd just appeared from thin air, looking completely unbothered as everyone asks her what she was thinking and where was she the whole evening. Kai just cries even harder and starts yelling at her again for scaring him.
Years later, post Possession, they're living with the ninja and one day Nya goes, "hey, remember that time I ran away from home when I was like five and you thought I had drowned but I was totally fine? it makes some sense now, doesn't it"
And everyone else is like wtf what kind of childhood did you have (rightfully so); so she tells the story to the rest of the ninja and she makes it sound like a funny little anecdote, almost like a joke, "he thought i was dead while i was just, chilling on the lake, just doing water ninja stuff, you wouldn't believe how crazy he went".
Meanwhile, Kai's like, "Nya that wasn't fun, it literally traumatized me for life, you little---"
And then he suddenly goes very quiet cause he just figured out some things about himself.
