very very very very skeptically sets a cup of tea on the table for him .

He looks at the cup, brows furrowing. Ansem glanced back up at her, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Poison won’t work on me, just so you know.”

unprompted: he is good at cheering her up somehow . even just watching him with the others , she supposes his mirth && easy-going demeanor has a certain contagious nature to it that almost makes it difficult to dwell . it's a bittersweet appreciation however . she knows he's able to see past her fronts to an extent && likewise he isn't perfect at covering his own . or perhaps she simply sees it too easily in others now , when their heart is pulling them elsewhere despite efforts to keep their mind in the present , with the people they care about . && for that , now alone with him && midst the signature laugh that would normally put an end to most prodding , she places a gentle hand on his shoulder . ◟ lea , are you okay ? ◞ her expression is only a subtle read of different emotions : skepticism && determination , concern most of all , barely seen in the shape of her brow && bright eyes . ◟ really ? ◞ // from @stormdive

when he first made that offer to take aqua around twilight town to get her mind off of her ruminations, he never could’ve foreseen how easy it would be to spend time with her ; easy enough these trips had almost turned into some kind of tradition, something beyond mere distraction, a simple companionship lea couldn’t help but look forward to every time they had time to hang out together ----- whatever wariness dictating their first tentative interactions now changed into something far more genuine and affectionate. he’d never truly imagined counting aqua among his closest friends, always too hung up on the image painted of her as the keyblade master he should strive to be but could never hope to achieve, but now that he’d gotten to know the woman behind that image, he was more than grateful for it. differences aside, these moments together taught him they had a lot more in common than first met the eye, from that playful, mischievous streak he never would’ve expected from her to both being ( deceptively, in his case ) good at reading others.

the latter being the trait coming to bite him in the ass today.

slightly forced laughter abruptly cut short by the hand on his shoulder, a gentle, comforting weight that kept hackles from immediately rising as he turned to meet her kind yet determined gaze with a wide - eyed one of his own. brows knit together, lips thinning slightly as his expression shuttered ; part of him wanted to brush it off, tell her he was fine, what was she talking about, but something in those blue eyes stopped him short.

though never really much for introspection, lea could admit he’d been lost in thought, attention elsewhere more than he would’ve liked throughout the duration of their walk. he thought he’d been managing to pass it off as simple tiredness from their earlier sparring session easy enough ----- more fool to him, really. a small, self - depreciating quirk tilted his mouth. “ that obvious, huh? don’t worry, though, “ he was quick to tack on, reaching up to pat her hand before taking it off his shoulder ( yet conveniently forgetting to let go ), “ it’s nothin’ . . . bad, just. a lot on my mind. i mean, there’s always a lot goin’ on up there, some days it’s just harder to ignore than others, y’ know? “

it wasn’t really anything he truly wanted to get into, even though he knew she’d probably listen without judgement or reprieve and would even be able to help and give advise. but the fear of being seen as weak was still there, combined with the worry he’d not be able to properly put it in words considering he still had difficulties even knowing what it was that was plaguing him staved his tongue more often than not. it was a constant and low - buzzing worry with no target and no reason, an uncertainty he had a hard time coping with, causing his mind to turn every little thing, every situation, every gesture and word and action no matter how innocent or innocuous from ant to mole hill. “ you ever feel like all of this, “ he motions towards their surroundings, the two of them, a vague gesture encompassing everything, “ feels a little too good to be true, sometimes? “
