okay probably here isn't the right place to ask this, but how do you make these stories (the ficlets)? i know this is a stupid question but i'm in a film class and i have to create like one short story per class - i'm incredibly dumb at writing, i have never written something and i get so much stress because i want to study film on uni. everyone tells me "you have so much creativity" or "i bet you write amazing stories" but that's not the truth. today is my fifth film class that i don't attend
Well, it depends on what sorta stories you wanna write. A plotless, fluff piece, or a plot-driven piece? For the fluff, I really imagine every single movement that my characters go through. Describe what the reader does, or how they feel, or what they smell/see/sense. Those are mainly just a way to make the reader feel more deeply immersed in the story.
For the plot-driven ones like Voiceless or the High School AU, I usually start with “Main Character had ___ life and ___ friends until one day ___ happened and Main Character changed through ___, ___, and ___.” When that happens, it’s a lot easier to fill in the blanks. Like for Voiceless, I got my inspiration when I saw this gif of Dan massaging his throat cuz he was sick and straining it bad. I thought of the High School AU because I had moved recently and decided to write that in. For my superpower Freaks story, I imagined the boys with powers and how that would relate to the world. A lot of the times, I literally go to a plot-generator online to get a really generic trope/plot and form little twists and turns through that.
Hope that helps! Don’t be afraid to ask me other questions ^^
