It was a fight not to burst into mad hysterical laughter at the sight of the hyper romanticised floor-to-ceiling mosaic, imagining the appalled looks on all three of my sister’s faces if only they could only see it too.
Instead of horses or ships, the women in the image rode astride orcas, and dolphins, and sea serpents, wielding primitive looking spears and blades in their hands. Women with impossibly tiny waists, wantonly arched backs, pert breasts, and the glazed doe eyes of those in the throws of mindless ecstasy. Most of them were the next best thing to naked from the waist up, their more delicate parts barely covered in gossamery coils of white linen, seashells, or their own billowing golden hair.
If only the artist had known the honest, far less pretty truth, he might have thought twice before painting monsters as men’s fantasies.
From the original project I’m working on in between RB updates, very loosely based on the story of the Little Mermaid. Toying with the idea of posting it on Wattpad when it’s a bit more developed. Anyone interested?
