I just learned the most insane bit of statistical star wars headcanon lore.
We all know stormtroopers missing is a meme, but that isn't entirely accurate and it mostly plot armour
But apparently people have theorised a headcanon and proven it with scenes from the movie, which while not intended, make sense somewhat to me.
So apparently stormtrooper armour is designed to protect against debris and shrapnel and small stuff like that as well as 1-2 blaster bolts.
This is because blaster bolts are very lethal, and apparently in one scene in mos eisley han misses and shoots some rock and it explodes. This is further solidified multiple times in clone wars. Which means blaster bolts are strong enough to crack open basic rock and concrete buildings with repeated shots.
Now rebels do not have this protection cuz poor, and they basically die just as much from sparks and debris as well as direct shots in the opening shot of A New hope, as well as in later movies.
So the theory is that they are trained to shoot near the ground and at other places to reliably use shrapnel and debris cuz the blaster bolts fling stuff everywhere and disable rebels that way to interrogate them and shit.
This is also not always the case as we do see them shoot and kill people on multiple occasions, across multiple shows.
Also another statistical fact, it apparently took 50-60k bullets per kill in the vietnam war (includes supression fire) , so even if we reduce it by 40k that is still 10k bullets per person, which makes the basic stormtroopers become absolutely cracked cuz they are downing their foes in like 500 shots.
Also the fact that in every on screen encounter 80% of all no name rebels just die. So Obi wan wasn't really wrong when he said they were precise.
