30 Uncommon Character Development Questions
7. How does your character perceive themselves? Positive? Negative? Neutral?
To be honest? Kidomaru thinks of himself as pretty damn great. He isn’t afraid to pick out the mistakes he made and correct them in battle or even admit his own weakness if it happens, but his confidence is pretty damn high. He knows he’s good at what he does, and he knows he’s strong. If he wants to get stronger, he’s not the type to sulk or broad over it. He just does. He accepts what he’s been given and intends to use it to the fullest extent, and will use his own accomplishments to convince people of his own merits if need be. There isn’t really much he dislikes about himself...he’s come to like and view his features as merits rather than obstacles.
18. Are they a leader, do they prefer to follow, or would they rather just stay on the sidelines altogether?
Complicated. Kidomaru has displayed the occasional qualities and intelligence of a leader, and he’s not afraid to drag everyone on the right path (cough sakon cough tayuya cough) for the sake of their mission or otherwise, but most of the time he’s content leaning back and letting someone take over. He might not completely enjoy taking orders, but having all that responsibility on his shoulders isn’t really his thing. As long as they’re doing it right, he could care less. He’ll follow, like the Sound Four is meant to do.
This, of course, doesn’t mean he’s too fond of their previous leader. A beatdown as harsh as the thrashing Kimimaro gave him tends to leave even a laidback soul like Kidomaru BITTER.
29. Does your character get restless when things are too quiet or do they favour solitude and silence? Why?
Silence is a given for the lifestyle of a Ninja. Being quiet, communicating without noise, leaving no trace of themselves behind...he’s used to it. However, he has never been too fond of it. He’s the type of person who can’t sleep without background noise-- the slightest hints of footsteps going through the hideout’s many halls, the light creaking of a bedframe. From his time in his cell as one of Orochimaru’s prisoners, he had to sleep through plenty of loud noises, some more unsavory than most. It’s gotten to the point where even the sound of breathing is reassuring-- it’s a sign of being alive. He might favor working in silence to quickly get rid of certain troublesome opponents, as well as use it to his advantage, but it’s not his favorite thing to deal with. It makes him itchy, anxious, fills him with the need to do something.
Nevermind the fact that the Sound Four were never really quiet. Sakon’s temper, Tayuya’s language, Jirobo’s scolding and Kidomaru’s laughter, their free time and mission time was always filled with noise despite their differences. Whether it was wisecracks and threats or the cracking of bones and severing of flesh, they’re all a symphony for the ears.
Not that you could really expect anything less from the Sound village in the first place.
