A Mother Lost. A Guardian’s Love:
(Lucian Angst with some comfort at the end)
Laid in bed not ready to sleep just rather lay with her eyes open… her mind was clearer this way. Nothing plagued her this way. It was nice and quiet. Sleep did eventually overtake her and she laid there hoping for a peaceful dreamless slumber where nothing could make ripples in the peace she felt before finally resting.
Lucian’s wish would not be granted as her peaceful void dissipated into a memory. A memory so deep and painful that it haunts her every night. Never allowing her turn rest. It felt like she was there again. Strapped down on a medical table, drugs flowing through her body as her mother replaced her limbs with cold metal and enhanced power. Telling her what they were doing was for Lucian’s benefit. Being a strong capable and beautiful weapon was what was needed. She just had to endure a little longer. Her vision fuzzed until she “awoke” on a training field. Much more intense than the average celestial soldier has to endure. Lucian remembered this… she failed this for the third time. Their mother came down from the watch tower, their face still holding a sweet smile but their eyes said everything… Cassius was disappointed in her… and had to fix her… again. Lucian pleaded and begged, shouting she would improve she would do better but Cassius, their own mother… looked at them with pure disgust. Lucian cried out again. Pleading for any sympathy, any understanding. But received nothing.
Lucian shot awake, tearing pouring from her eyes, choking on air as she clutched her chest and shook with grief and rage. Her voice was trembling and barely audible but she managed to choke out “emergency contact required” her communicator pinged the command and alerted Neoscona immediately. It didn’t take long for the hybrid to show up in Lucian room. She turned the light onto their low settings and slowly approached Lucian as she was now hugging herself and still crying. “Lucian… moonlet it’s me, Neoscona… no one else just me” her voice was steady and calm, a reminder, soft and grounding. Lucian looked up, her blue eyes glowing dimly. It takes a moment but eventually her vision focuses on Neoscona. “Same nightmare again” Lucian nods, Neoscona carefully sits on the bed and leaves herself open if Lucian wanted comfort or not.
Lucian shifted and leaned against Neoscona, their guardian like many times before wrapped her in a quiet but loving hug. They started to cry again, not because of the nightmare but because even after so long. They were still in pain over Cassius never truly loving them. But they were also crying because they felt grateful to always have someone like Neoscona. To show her what real parental love and support is. “Thank you…” they muttered, “You’re welcome Lucian…”
