How cute is this monkey & infant? 🐒 Did you know that the Blue Atlas Cedar, a tree native of Morocco, and used as a landscape specimen here in the United States, is used as a protective home for many of these monkeys in the wild? This troop or barrel of Barbary macaque monkeys is the only wild population of monkeys on the European continent. Even though they are endangered, they are a thriving in the Gibraltar Nature Reserve. This small peninsula known as the Rock of Gibraltar has been occupied by the Moors, the Spanish and the British. I always find dead trees like this so interesting to look at and see in photos, especially when everything else around them is alive! Does anyone know what causes these trees to die? I have no idea what type of fruit this monkey is eating, but it's cute! 🐒 At the top of the Rock of Gibraltar you will be able to see countless monkeys ruling as king of the rock, like these three overlooking the Gibraltar Harbor, to the coast of Spain!
