“Figured,” Sam grumbles, before opening the holodeck to check his orders. He places an override on the pizza, generating an authorized substitute. “Think of it as skippin’ the tip. It happens.” He lowers the hologram, hands moving to adjust the straps of his backpack. “What'dya mean, beyond the veil?”

          “You’re not from this timeline.” Marvin leans against the doorframe with a smirk. “Because I’ve been all over, to various countries, and almost all of them require paper currency of some sort. So my logical conclusion is somehow you slipped into an alternate dimension. So here, in this world, I’m legally obligated t’ invite you inside for a slice or two of this...” he wrinkles his nose. “...pizza.”

          “Would it really be that bad? I wouldn’t mind chasin’ a piglet.” There’s something deeper he should probably be grasping here, but for the life of him, Jackie can’t figure out what that might be. He doesn’t have the know-how to solve riddles, he’s too used to taking everything at face value and running with that.

          “Piglets are adorable anyway, the end of th’ chase means we can cuddle with one.”

⸺   THE INITIAL TRAIN of thought is all but lost when Heartman opens his mouth to speak, shuts it, turns to face Sam with an almost puzzled expression, and then finally speaks. “Did you ever actually sign a contract?” Bridges has always been rather loose with anything that could be read as legality, seeing as—for the moment, at least—there are no actual laws. 

Hm. The questions of laws and legality always get strange since the Stranding decimated everything. It’s possible he’s still operating under the guidelines of what he probably did sign the first time he started official work for Bridges, back when there was still some semblance of society and country…

Heartman shrugs it off, waving a hand. “No matter. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, of course; we’re hardly in a place to tell you to do anything. It’s just a request, Sam.” // unraveled starters | @strandd

22. Does ‘honesty’ matter? + @strandd

Of course honesty mattered to the Timelord, those who were dishonest, they were always the ones with something to hide. But it went deeper than just lies and truth. 

It was about ones morals, one who was honest doesn’t do things that are morally wrong. 

And it always made the Timelord question and doubt himself in being a honest person. He had done bad in his past and he sure as hell didn’t know what hard choices there would be, to make in his future. 

There was blood on his hands, he couldn’t always save everyone, and sometimes the ones lost were the ones who meant the most to him, his friends, his family and those who would forever be stained across his hearts.

Those that he would always hold himself up to, try to hold himself too. But he wasn’t a honest person, he bent truths and lied. His first rule was the Doctor lies. 

So was it right he judged others on such a thing as honesty, if one was honest or not. He had turned in rage once he found out someone was lying to him, unless his friends calmed him or held him back. 

Was it right to do that when he couldn’t call himself an honest man?

"So what you're saying is, that key in your hand has always been there," Sam squints, "And you didn't just make it appear out of thin air." The robotic scanner on his shoulder leans forward, blinking a few times before giving the porter a thumbs up. "Well, at least you're not a BT. That's a step up from the last guy."

Listen, stranger. Wilford is dealing with a fading hangover. Having someone approach, accuse him of something with a key, and flashing a bright light in his face is certainly not helping. His free hand rubs the bridge of his nose and his eyes, before finally looking at the other.

“If ya want th’ key, I’ll give it t’ ya. I’m sure I can get another one ‘round here. An’ fer th’ record, I’m no ‘BT’. I’m a ‘WW’, or ya can call me Wilford Warfstache.” That... Sounded smoother in his head. No matter! This man is full of mysteries and it’s piquing reporter curiosity.

“Hey, so what’s this thing here?” ‘This thing’ being the BB strapped to the other. Ignore Wilford as he taps the glass for good measure. “Is it some sorta bomb?”
