Does that mean that MC is better at reading body language/micro expressions than the others?

The ask about what would the cast be as yanderes spurred me on with the question, I was wondering if MC would be able to see past the mask Cater wears.

Yes, MC is significantly better at reading body language and micro expressions than the twst folk, to the point that it's almost as beneficial as an additional sense (like seeing/ hearing/ etc). For most twst folk, it's extremely difficult to tell what another person is thinking/ feeling if they don't intentionally say/ exaggerate their expressions, but it's fairly intuitive to us.

Minor spoiler warnings for Cater/ MC's relationship ahead:

From the start, MC would get the vibe that Cater was kind of fake/ wasn't being genuine, but they wouldn't really think too much about it since all the twst folks are pretty weird to them. Since humans are the best at lying out of all the species, his deception is fairly subtle, but it does become more obvious as MC starts to catch on over time.

So body heat wise, are the lads gonna use Yuu as a heated blanket? Does Yuu run significantly hotter than TWST people? Also. Since they're red when they blush, do they just look sunburnt to fuck?

Also I would NEVER shake the feeling that these super pale people with blue lips and blue tear ducks and blue blush and grey skin that are walking around with me ain't just corpses. DAWG THAT IS WHAT CORPSE COLORS ARE LIKE! Uncanny valley is the whole point of this AU I know but good lord

People being "rosy" looking and being warm toned have had a bit of an iron grip on what is attractive, or at the very least "cute" here. Would that be flipped for TWST or is it still like "yeah if your blood is more green vs blue then you're seen as cuter"? Does this part even make sense?

I would imagine that Yuu would have to get custom makeup made for them, at least for the base (foundation, concealer, bronzer (does TWST use bronzer in this au?)). Probably for eye and lip makeup too cause I imagine even the warm tones in twisted wonderland here are cool tones back on earth.

YOU SAID THE COLOR RED WAS RARE IN NATURE?! Are strawberries/cherries/tomatoes/watermelons blue then? Or green? Is red and blue just swapping places as the rare colors in nature? Are roses blue? Are robins blue? Was a red historically a "rich people color" like purple was here cause purple dyes were so hard to make?

Is the world more muted in general there? Color wise? How bright is a bright color to them? Or to us, cause we can see less colors than they can?

Hello, and thanks for the ask! I'm just gonna do bullet points for this one starting from the top to keep it organized.

-Yep! MC will absolutely be commandeered at various points as a nice source of warmth since they have a much higher body temperature than the lads.

-Twst folk don't sunburn, so they won't assume that about the MC, but our skin tone is distinctly warmer/ pinker than theirs so it will make us stand out (alongside all the other differences in features).

-Yeah their definitely super creepy ;-; on the bright side, their eyes are pretty shallowly set on their face, and their bodies are fairly smooth/ they don't show their bones & muscles as visibly as we do, so they don't have that sunken or emaciated look corpses do. Small wins ig???

-Since Twst has multiple sapient species, beauty standards vary a lot, and the few global ones tend to focus more on grace of movement/actions and diligence/effort in grooming (more so a question of skill and wealth than natural features). As for skin tone and blood specifically, while darker blood is generally idealized due to it being a signifier of stronger magic, there really isn't a beauty standard for skin tone one way or the other. This is because the skin of twst folks is quite opaque, meaning it's extremely difficult to tell the color of one's blood on a fair skinned individual, and pretty much impossible on someone with darker skin; and blush/ flush appears as a fairly similar grayish purple on most.

-If MC wanted to wear makeup like foundation or concealer, they would probably need one made specially for them. Not only would the color be an issue, but twst folk's makeup is very heavy/ oil based since their skin isn't as absorbent as ours and they don't need to worry about acne or clogged pores. The the same goes for other makeup products, and they don't really use bronzer, but they do use contour.

-Most red things in nature appear as a slightly off version of themselves to us, and a different color we cannot see to twst folks, but it's not a completely non-existent color. Like you guessed, that increases its value, as even though all dyes are pretty easy to make with magic for a skilled mage, red dye was a pretty scarce and valuable commodity to less magically inclined human societies. This is why the Queen of Hearts was so angry that her roses were a common white when she had specially ordered and payed for the far rarer red (and why Heartslabyul's main color is now red as well).

-Twst naturally doesn't look all that much brighter or duller than Earth, since we're still seeing all their colors through the same cones we did back on our world, but some colors do seem out of place in their environment. Like, you may see a shirt where the color choice is just ugly as hell, but it's only because something that's baby snot green to us is a beautiful, unimaginable hue to them (which again plays into red's rarity, as "kinda red" things to us are completely different to them). Though, man-made things like balloons, lights, etc, look extremely saturated to us.

Hi 👋! I’m a huge fan of your TWST Au especially when it goes into detail about how biological and psychological different humans from Earth are when compared to the species from Twisted Wonderland.

I lowkey wonder if there is also a difference when it comes to sleep or the dreamscape.

Humans from Earth have different stages of sleep such as NREM Stage 1 (N1): Light Sleep, NREM Stage 2 (N2): Intermediate Sleep, NREM Stage 3 (N3): Deep Sleep, and Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep.

The NREM Stage 2 (N2): Intermediate Sleep is the deeper state of light sleep where your body temperature drops and heart rate slows further.

The NREM Stage 3 (N3): Deep Sleep is the stage where the body’s breathing, heart rate, and brain activity drop to their lowest levels, and muscles are completely relaxed.

While the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep stage is where vivid dreaming occurs.

I don’t know if in your AU the sleep cycle for the TWST species is complete different to a human from Earth, but imagine the chaos that Yuu’s sleeping cycle would cause! Like if any of the characters had a sleepover at Ramshackle and had the job to wake everyone up once they got to Yuu, they would immediately freak out since they can’t hear a heartbeat from the perfect. Once they tell the others that they can’t hear Yuu’s heartbeat, the others will start freaking out thinking that Yuu died in their sleep!

Or imagine another scenario that involves with dreams especially with Silver’s magic. His magic allows him the enter the dreams of other people this can branch out into three interesting cases. The first case is that he can’t enter Yuu’s dreams at all since due to Yuu’s body containing iron he can’t enter her dreams.

The second case is that he enters Yuu’s mind while she’s in NREM stage 2 or 3 and there’s nothing but a black void so silent and dark that Silver can’t see his hands in front of his face making him concerned about this person’s dreamscape.

The third case is that he enters Yuu’s mind while she’s in REM sleep stage except this a liminal dreamscape where nothing makes sense yet some sensations of the dream can feel too real and it just gives him an eerie feeling. The extreme case scenario is if Yuu’s dreamscape is Silent Hills on nightmare difficulty mode.

For once all the different twst species have something in common, and that's that they only have 1 stage of sleep! It's a fairly deep sleep in which they constantly dream, and their body functions like heartbeat and breathing don't slow, as they have to keep up with the demand of the magic in their bodies (though their muscles do relax). It definitely freaks them out seeing MC essentially getting a free trial of death every time they nod off lol.

Silver would be able to enter MC's dreams, and what he would find is pretty much exactly as you described, with the addition that many homo sapiens' senses are much weaker than the twst folks'. This would make it even harder for him to navigate in MC's dream scape, since it would appear duller/ blurrier/ muffled compared to what he was used to. In addition, I don't imagine nightmares would be very common for twst folk, as they could (admittedly very rarely) cause the person to accidentally cast magic in their sleep.

Do Earth humans have more muscles than Twst humans?

I'd say they're fairly similar in the amount/ size, maybe a little more for us, but Earth human muscles are a lot denser while Twst human muscles are a lot more flexible/ stretchy. Instead of building muscle through healing micro tears like we do, twst folk's bodies recognize the need to gain muscle mass through failure to perform a physical task; so while exercising isn't nearly as painful for them, it takes a lot longer to build strength and there's less wiggle room around their physical limits.

I know this wasn't in the ask, but for the other species:

Beastmen tend to have more muscle mass than we do, and it's a bit stronger and less flexible than Twst humans'.

Merfolk are in a similar boat to beastmen, but with the flexibility of twst humans'.

Fae vary greatly, but many are similar to merfolk.

Hello, and thanks for the ask! This topic will be brought up later on in the story, but I don't think this counts as a spoiler or anything.

I only briefly mentioned it once before in this post, but twst folk's immune systems work quite differently than ours, making it far rarer for them to contract illness, but much more serious/ deadly if they do. Due to this, the very small amount of bacteria and micro organisms inhabiting twst, and their planet not experiencing climate change or natural disasters anywhere near as frequently or severely as we do, they have never experienced a global pandemic. Throughout their entire history, there have only been a sparse few epidemics, and they started and ended very quickly, as most infected individuals succumbed to their illness before it could be passed on to other people.

Those few instances are infamous pieces of history, either viewed as punishments from god(s) or a grim reminder of mortality and how fate can be cruel depending on the culture; and they left society permanently scarred after. So the idea that not only have those very tragedies been experienced on Earth 100 fold, but that MC has lived through one? Fear, sadness, respect, anger- they feel all of it. How could you go through that and still function? How could anything feel normal afterwards? It's hard for them to process, the scope of it all, and everyone responds to it a little bit differently save for one shared thought: Yeah, you're not going back.

Sorry if the actual reaction part was pretty vague, I had trouble generalizing this one since it varies for each character. If y'all ever want specific cast members to be included in posts like these, please put them in the ask and I'll do my best! Anyways, have a good day :D

Weird question, but are skin cells the same in the twst universe as they are in ours? I got a sunburn recently, and while peeling off some dead skin, began wondering if the sight of Reader peeling their own skin off would freak them out.

I imagine their skin would be more protected due to magic, so sunburns wouldn't be as common, or even unheard of? I think fae would experience this as well, but stronger, and same for beastmen.

However, I'm mostly curious about Merfolk. While they have magic, they don't experience as much of the sun. So, when transformed into humans, what is their skin like? I like to think its oily, or similar to porcelain in look.

TWST folk's skin is much different than ours, being less breathable/ absorbent and containing virtually no pores (They don't sweat, instead regulating their internal temperature with magic). Save for a few types of reptilian beastmen and fae, most don't shed much skin, either, as their bodies generally opt to heal and prolong cell life as apposed to allowing them to die off in favor of new ones. Merfolk skin is much the same, although it's a bit slicker, and the tips of their fingers are quite rough to allow for a good grip under water. Many types of twst folk across all non-human species also have some amount of scales, and all skin types can be burned by magic and/ore fire.

In addition, despite their atmosphere being thinner, their sun's harmful UV rays don't reach their planet as harshly as you'd expect, as there's a fairly strong magic-magnetic barrier that blocks out a good portion of it (It's strongest over briar valley, making the country naturally dimmer).

All these factors contribute to the conclusion that no, they don't sunburn. They'd probably be horrified if they saw MC peeling off their own skin, especially if it was a particularly painful burn.

I wonder who is gonna teach Yuu gentle touch in the alien au

I mean someone has to, they're far too strong

The concept of a one of the boys teaching yuu how gentle they have to be with others so that within every touch is a part of his care(?){idk how to word it}. He can make all the others aware of it and they won't be able to unfeel him

I feel like the "tougher" boys {malleus, tweels, etc} would trick Yuu into gripping too hard so that only he can tolerate it

Several of the boys would give it a try, especially Riddle after seeing MC be less than graceful with some of his tea cups, but ultimately the main one teaching them will be Malleus. He knows what it's like to exist in a world that's too fragile for you, and has the most experience with controlling his strength, so he's able to give MC the best advice on what to and what not to do (which he totally doesn't use as an excuse to spend more time with them). Though, the Tweels for sure would have tried to trick MC like that if they had gotten to them first lol

I’d like to hear more about how “survival of the fittest” may be more of a thing in your twst AU than it is on Earth and how magical/physical strength plays into class/hierarchy!

You’ve also mentioned how morality and what’s considered good vs. evil may be different because of the aforementioned things, I’m curious on that too since I believe you mentioned in another post that people in twst are overall less empathetic than Earthlings, so this may tie into the above!

Honestly I've kind of struggled with how to answer this over the past 2 weeks, since when writing/ planning the story I've mostly been thinking about how the twst folk behave as a result of this mentality, instead of the larger societal implications. This is what I've got for the time being, but I'd like to come back and revisit at some point when I've got it better figured out.

Safety and legality wise, people are generally expected to either handle their own problems, or stick by someone stronger who can help them. Police forces are extremely small in most places, and communities will most often "take care" of problems without involvement from the law. The Queendom of Roses is mostly an exception to this, though, due to a.) the country's tradition of having a heavily involved government and b.) having a population mainly consisting of humans and herbivorous beastmen.

There are also quite a few dark, but somewhat known "secrets" on the planet, such as black markets (y'all seen beaststars?) and territories that you don't go, especially if you're magically weak.

As for the morality thing, it depends on the culture. Places like the Sunset Savanna and Coral Sea heavily lean into the aforementioned importance on survival, and have a big "fuck around, find out" mentality. Essentially, it's not necessarily evil to harm someone if they've gone where they were warned not too or pissed off the people around them. Moral goodness mostly comes from protecting/ ensuring the prosperity of those close to you.

Briar Valley is much the same, but places a lot more importance on honoring tradition, keeping your word, and respecting authority/ your elders.

The Shaftlands and the Scalding Sands still carry the core elements of the first two, but with more emphasis on forgiveness and respecting individuality, very much "live and let live". Much less violent than the others.

The Queendom of Roses is sort of in-between the last two and Briar Valley, placing a lot of importance on obedience and authority on the surface. Though, younger generations are growing increasingly fond of the Shaftlands and the Scalding Sands' culture.

The Isle of Woe is a wild card. Anything for knowledge/ science. Anything.
