Strangefruit are a band who are slowly building up fan bases across the land here in the UK, Strangefruit’s debut EP, ‘Between The Earth and Sea’ is the weapon they chosen to take over the world. Lead by the single ‘Sea Of Fog’ they aim to charm their way into people’s homes. But for us after listening to the EP, we decided that their single is actually one of the weakest tracks for us. The band slowly allow lead singer Jenny Maxwell to ease herself in then with an almighty crash they dispose of her in epic fashion leaving her to be a forgotten memory. But there is one track on the EP that charms us through and though, Strangefruit are not a band who use modern techniques to try and pull the music world forward but what they do, is simple and effective.

Listening to the sombre, breathtakingly beautiful ‘Falling’ you get a glimpse as to why everyone is raving about Maxwell. The band refraining from trying to steal her limelight and for once getting the instrumentation right to fully showcase the vulnerability and fragile voice that sweeps you off your feet. Listening to their track ‘Falling’ the heart wrenching and tingly voice of Maxwell rips into your heart and stays there for quite some time. There’s a richness in her tone, against the minimal percussion and casually strum guitars she beams up into the light like an angel. The track could be on a movie soundtrack, it has that cinematic quality to draw you in. Listening to ‘Falling’ you can’t help but get the same goosebumps that Iris DeMent’s “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms” gives you. The whirlwind of emotions are backed up even further by the bleeding guitar solos halfway through.
