The weird thing about me and language is that, technically my first language was Mandarin Chinese. And then at some point in my childhood I just started speaking English more and more frequently, and Mandarin less and less. To the point where nowadays I can’t actually speak Mandarin all that well and English is functionally my first language. But sometimes I feel like the fact that my first language wasn’t English makes itself known. Because sometimes when I talk I feel like I’m getting strangled by the concept of language itself.
