Nor I. I don't like AUs that kill off canon characters offscreen. If a story wants to be forgiven for that, it has to basically drown me in new characters and exciting worldbuilding and possibilities.

That oneshot was a bit heavy for me. I would rather read about people fighting the forces of evil and possibly also getting married.

The particular one I just read?

Niko never takes them to Winding Circle, and they survive but are all basically misanthropic and insane. The events of the first four books kill all their would-be teachers, and they end up finding each other later and ruling Emelan with an iron fist, basically hating each other but stuck together anyway because they haven't got anyone else.
