New Straw Market in Exuma

A brand new Straw Market opened this week in the center of George Town. This impressive new building was constructed to replace the old Straw Market that burnt down in 2015.

There has been a straw Market in Exuma since the 1960s and over the years expanded to house 23 vendors. All are local Bahamian ladies and their produce includes handcrafted bags, and baskets, woven straw hats and bowls, coconut shell carvings and hand made jewelry. Then in season the  ladies add fresh fruit and vegetables and other farm produce.

We wish the venders the very best in their new setting.  Pay them a visit when you are on Island.
