Tony Fouhse (and Gus) in his back room - 2014

Yesterday was a very exciting day.  Tony and I went to check out the final proof of my book, Back to me.  On the way to the printers we were both nervous about how it would look since the photos are all sort of fucked up - dark and grainy (on purpose).  We knew it would be tricky to get it right. 

Looking through the book, we were both really impressed with the accuracy of the printer and the feel of the thing. 

It's such an amazing feeling to start with nothing and end with something.  The process of shooting this, editing it, writing and working with someone great and has been a hugely inspiring and sort of life changing for me.  

I'm looking forward now.

test prints (Back To Me)

Here I am in Ottawa, Canada where I'm from.  While I'm here visiting family, I'm working with my friend Tony Fouhse to finish up my photo book, Back To Me.  It feels like it's been so long, working on this. Staring at the pictures over and over again, making heart wrenching decisions about which pictures to cut, how to tell the story etc. 

As the end approaches, I'm feeling so excited but also a little nervous about how I'll feel after.  So much of my energy and emotion has been put into this for so long.  I'm wondering if I'll feel a weird void... sort of alone or something.  I'm hoping that with that empty space I will find inspiration to do something new.  Who knows.  I just have to live and feel what I feel.  All I know is I can't wait to hold this book in my hands.  

Above is a picture of the cover and test prints we had made to pick paper and make sure colors are right.
