I’m sure I’m gonna piss off some dream stans here but how the FUCK did he win the streamyawards over MARKIPLIER. Like what?? Dream 1. Absolutely fell off and died after his face reveal 2. Has gotten called out for heinous shit and 3. Has lost a shit ton of friends ever since dsmp ended. MARK HAS STAYED WINNING EVEN WHILE CREATING A WHOLE ASS MOVIE. HES LITERALLY LIKE. A FOUNDING FATHER OF YOUTUBE. WHAT

I'm gonna ask this because I need to vent a little. I know it shouldn't be a big deal and if anything happens... IDK. I might be going crazy, but this isn't like him, so...
It's about Rhett missing the Streamies and saying nothing about it. No one, anywhere, not even Link threw us a bone, and boy does he have a big mouth.
They had like a gag going on with the cardboard-Rhett, but somehow I think that Rhett would've had something to say about it? Like a quip, a comment, a tweet, anything. But we got nothing. I know he was a little sick on GME a couple days before, but we got nothing.
What we did get was lots of Link doing pictures with People, on his own. And also with Stevie and Chase. I don't want to freak out... But could this be the beginning of the end of Rhett and Link?
Ok when I saw this I had to answer immediately. The truth is I had thoughts but I also thought people would have enough of my negativity and worries.
I agree with you that something is off. They always act like they are starved for attention and social big events that could give them more exposure. It’s not like Rhett to not be there. Much like Rhett’s own disappearance, I find Link’s handling of this just as suspicious. Even though I loved his presentation for his excellent comedic timing, the truth is that the things he said were a “choice”.
He started his speech with “Rhett McLaughlin WAS my best friend”. He did not make a joke about Rhett being sick or anything, he said he’s gone missing and is presumed dead. These are very funny for me with my somewhat prickly and morbid sense of humour, however they could as well indicate that there was a breakdown in the communication between them, which could have left Link hanging before their Streamys presentation, and Link responded to that with equating Rhett to being dead in this friendship or partnership.
He also said another thing. He said Rhett would be missed from this presentation because he was always the one to keep him from saying something stupid. This is exactly what was happening in GME, right? With this Link almost threatened to actually go on with the “stupid” thing he needs to say, now that he was free of Rhett’s shadow. If Rhett was watching begrudgingly from home, this might as well have given him a heart attack.
And then Link said nothing about the actual awards or the nominations. He used all his time to speak about Rhett, in a past tense, with a seeming indifference to his presumed death, and insinuating his intent to say stupid things on his own accord. It was hilarious but IMO it was also a message.
I find it more likely than not that they have fought after GME. Rhett was just not okay with any of it. And after Link got sober, he could also get angry at Rhett for becoming an obstacle to him. It’s very possible that they fought and Rhett used his sickness as an excuse to bail out entirely. I just hope he did not cut communication entirely like Link seemed to allude.
The optimistic scenario is that he was a little sick, however the strenuous GME, the alcohol and his extreme anxiety made his condition worse. And Link was just being Link.
Anyway, he just can’t be gone just like that. I don’t think this alone could ever be the end. Maybe Rhett wants to show Link what’s at stake here (their relationship among everything else) and wants to scare him a little. Link is really unpredictable though. He can spend a lifetime being scared and then he wakes up one day and suddenly is never scared again.
