have you heard of the charity Streetlink? Is it ok to use? I nearly sent a message about a rough sleeper tonight but I was worried they might be an illegal immigrant and I was worried they could get into trouble if I referred them

I have, it works by reporting to the local authority, then checking back in ten days to make sure the authority has taken some action. Local authorities and sometimes the charities themselves can work with the Home Office though, and there have been reports of Streetlink doing this, so you’re right to be wary. Contacting Shelter would be the better option, since they have a clear policy of support over enforcement.

Such a good website! Please use this if you know of any homeless people in your area!

Homelessness is a huge problem, especially this time of year. The problem is made worse by the amount of taboo surrounding the subject, and fear and xenophobia towards homeless people. Society views them as inferior to the rest of the community. 

If you have a little bit of spare time in your week, please volunteer at your local homeless organisation to help educate the public on the issues of homelessness, and help impoverished people in your community get the support they need. :)
