Today I started what I am calling a Whole10. For the next 10 days I am committing to eating strict Paleo (which is basically what the Whole30 is all about), continuing my fruit fast, and omitting nuts, again. Yes, the nuts again. It has only been 18 days since my Whole30 ended, but I am feeling like I need to do some clean up; Already, I am seeing a difference in my skin and scalp with the increase in sugar consumption. Sugar is really the main thing that I started craving once my Whole30 ended. Sure, I missed the nuts, but I stopped craving them after a week or so of not having them. I've been eating chocolate, baking muffins and breads, making protein balls with honey as a sweetener, eating bacon and deli meat that has sugar added, and accepting a piece here and a piece there of fruit snacks from the children at my school. I haven't gone stupid, dumb, crazy, but I have been doing a bit more than I want to.
I really want to eat Paleo 90% of the time--meaning 2.7 of my 3 meals a day are Paleo approved--and treat myself to all the extra goodness that exists in the world less often. Not even daily. And when I do have a treat, I want it to end there. I don't want to bring it home, or have an entire day of treats, which is what I have been doing for the past few weekends. During my Whole30, I was excited when my after dinner dessert craving disappeared. I was then able to eat more of the real food.
So yeah, 10 days of clean eating and then I'll have 5 days off work for the annual November holiday that I don't celebrate. I planned this quite well because after my 5 days of vacation, where I will do a bit of indulging, I plan to start the 21 Day Sugar Detox on December 1. I'm thinking it shouldn't be too hard since I'm already fasting fruit. The skin and scalp results should be better than my Whole30 sugar eliminating, because I was eating fruit for the first 27 days of my Whole30. I'm also looking forward to new recipes and new creative breakfast ideas--since I'm not eating fruit most of my breakfasts end up being vegetables.
All of this fasting, omitting, and eliminating may seem too much of a hassle for some people, but it's exactly what I need to help keep me on track and feeling alive. It provides me with structure and an attainable goal that produces amazing results. I'm loving my fit and trim body, healthy hair, increased energy, and new outlook on food and living.
Here's to 10 days of super clean eating and living!
