And that's the Mavic XA rear hub fully serviced, all bearings replaced and back together again. It's an easy enough procedure once you know what hub you've got, what bearings you need - and once you've battered the freehub off the axle it's welded onto....

Mavic's product range is confusing and opaque compared with, say, Hope's clear online information. In the event you've stumbled on this post, here's what you need to know if you want to service a Mavic XA 2019 rear hub:

Full Hub Stripdown and Rebuild - this Aksium hub is identical to the 2019 XA.

Freehub Bearing Replacement - the freehub should pull off the axle by hand once you've removed the end cap. There are no circlips; the only circlip on this hub is at the non-driveside end of the axle. However, anecdotally and in my own experience, the bearing races can corrode badly onto the axle.

XA Schematic - the codes for the individual hub components are useful if you're searching for replacement parts.

Hub Shell Bearings - 2 x 6903

Freehub Bearings - 1 x 17287 (inboard)

1 x 6902 (outboard)

I used the original outboard bearing as a drift to tap the replacement inboard bearing into place; I was then able to easily knock the drift bearing back out of the freehub with a punch because it's got a narrower ID.

Spares - SJS Cycles have a decent range of Mavic hub spares in stock, and Bikeparts' ability to source spares also seems to be grounded in reality, rather than being merely an aspirational wishlist.
