ATL - Tour Update
For anyone wondering, ATL is absolutely not the place for travel dancers. Here’s why:
First, no matter what county you’re in, wherever you get hired, they will give you a paper to take to the police station to issue you a $200 (or more depending on the county) dancer license. This license is PER county. ATL is huge so do your research on which county you want to be in because what’s the point of buying multiple licenses.
Second, the tip outs are high. Especially if you’re under the table, no license it’s double. A popular club wanted to charge us $120 up front for not having a license. Most clubs wanted $70 up front which I thought was a scam, but apparently it’s the norm.
Third, if you’re flying in, or coming in on a bus, you already made a mistake because you need a car if you don’t wanna spend over $100 on uber like we did. Or a rental. ATL IS HUGE and one uber would be like $30!!
We did go to Blue Flame, but these urban clubs seem to only be worth it when you promote yourself. It’s all about who you know and who you have seeing you, I realize that now. Next stop was supposed to be Austin TX but we didn’t even make $$ for the flight.
In retrospect, I would’ve made ATL the last stop if I had done more research. Because we would’ve already made bank from other cities and a license would actually be worth it at that point. Because of this set back, my travel partner has gone home and so have I. Considering going back to Tampa before this weekend to make a bag to continue. I wish I hadn’t left my entire makeup bag back in ATL at the Airbnb. Low Key, I’m feeling soo down but definitely thinking about going solo and road tripping. It is more difficult to get hired when you’re work different girls of different looks and body types, that’s just the industry.
On the plus side! ATL is excellent for free styling and meeting wealthy men and celebrities. Just casually, at upscale bars and clubs. They’re everywhere.
Edit: the only reason we were even able to work without a license was because of getting in touch with people and talking to managers and knowing a girl who worked in the industry. So it’s about who you know, if you don’t have a license.
