4. Name a popular ship you don’t get the appeal of.

For DM, it would have to be polarshipping. It’s not entirely the age gap that irks me (I assume Mai wouldn’t date anyone until they were of legal age), but that honestly Jounouchi never seems to … want Mai, as far as the manga goes at least. He, Honda, and Yuugi ogle her, but Jounouchi never sees her as anything more than a duelist? All those sappy moments in the anime? Altered. In the manga, Jounouchi doesn’t dream of Mai because they’re in school; he doesn’t go after Mai at any point.

Nothing for Zexal though - oh my goodness do I ship close to everything in Zexal.

And for Arc-V, maybe rottenshipping? But it’s not that popular. Again, I’m much more open to ships in the later series ^^

I'll give you a few. Starshipping, Braceletshipping, and Fruitshipping.

Star

I’m a fucking sucker for red/blue ships already, and I just think that these two are so good for each other.  I only particularly ship it with a post-series Judai personality (because I don’t think during series Judai is emotionally stable enough for a healthy relationship), but otherwise these characters complement each other perfectly.  They have both been through hellish situations and know how to take care of each other.  I think both of them are really gentle and calm with each other and they have nice cuddle sessions.

Bracelet

This one I never really got into because part of me feels like Yuto handles Yuzu with kid gloves.  He’s very adamant about protecting her which is really cute and I’m all for knight in shining armor shit (I’ll eat it up most of the time) but I don’t think that Yuzu needs that from him.  Yuto, at least in the beginning in canon, is always going to be seeing Ruri in her, and at least subconsciously is going to be comparing the two.  I think Yuzu would take offense to that, constantly being compared to someone else when she’s in a relationship with someone when she wants to be seen for herself on her own terms.  Yuto is too hesitant and Yuzu tends to charge ahead, and in the end I personally can’t see it holding together romantically for too long.

Fruit

This is cute as fuck and although I don’t actively ship it since I like other ships for the pair of them better it’s definitely my second choice for the both of them.  It’s just great to see such a mutually healthy and friendly relationship between a guy and girl in a shonen anime.  Sure Yuzu is the damsel in distress a lot, but they honestly legitimately act like really good friends who care immensely about each other and will move heaven and earth to help the other one.  Childhood friend tropes are usually my shit and these two fit it to a tee, i can imagine them playing pretend together as children and just having all sorts of embarrassing stories about each other.  They’re sweet, pure, and clearly care about each other as one of the most important people in each other’s lives.

A popular ship in DM that I can’t get behind is thiefshipping. But, then again, I think I just don’t like it BECAUSE it’s popular. xD

understandable ^^ i’m a thiefshipper, but i’m really picky about how i like it (in-canon, battle city, and romantic has to be after yami malik emerges). i do think sometimes the popularity of a ship/character can take away the appeal; i have a bone to pick with fanart of the ygo protagonists that swaps yuugi for atemu. however, i’m not one to police ships, and i love to hear about ships and hcs, even for things that might not appeal to me (except incest/abuse).
