A short film of my contraption for sculpture, in movement.
Top or Bottom
Using a large piece of rebar, human hair, and fabric, I constructed a giant hair tie that is meant to wrap around my head. I wanted to use this piece as a sort of commentary on the heteronormative gender roles that infiltrate queer spaces within the gay community. I used the hair tie to, in a way, eliminate my face in a gay dating app profile to get rid of any possible notions of gender someone might get from looking at a photo of my face. The video details some of the various responses I got from the men on the app as well as showcased how they all related to eachother.
